Tuna exports to Italy increased by 30 times

 Thursday, November 30,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s tuna exports to Italy increased by 30 times in October of 2023 and have risen to become Vietnam's largest tuna import market in the EU.

For the first time since the beginning of 2023, Vietnam's tuna export value has returned to a level nearly equivalent to the same period last year. According to the statistics figures from Vietnam Customs, the country’s export value of tuna in October of 2023 reached more than 76 million USD, down by 0.5% compared to October of 2022. Totally in the first 10 months of 2023, tuna exports reached nearly 693 million USD, down by 22% compared to the same period of 2022.
Notably, the exports of processed and canned tuna products are tending to increase faster in the last months of the year. The exports of frozen steamed tuna increased the most by 24% over the same period last year.
Also in October, Vietnam's tuna exports to some main markets increased over the same period. Specifically, tuna exports to the US and Canada, after many months of decline, increased again in October, with an increase of 6% over the same period last year.
Along with that, the exports to Chile, the Philippines and South Korea continued to accelerate with galloping growth rates of 406%, 116% and 402% respectively. Among these markets, South Korea was the most impressive with continuously high growth over the past several months. This country is currently in the top 15 markets importing the most tuna from Vietnam.
Meanwhile, tuna exports to the EU continued to decline in October of 2023. Tuna export value to this market in October only reached more than 15 million USD, down by 19% over the same period last year. However, totally in the first 10 months of 2023, the country’s exports to this market still increased by 1%, reaching more than 143 million USD.
The exports to the three leading import markets of the bloc, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy, had many changes in October. Specifically, tuna exports to Germany and the Netherlands decreased while tuna exports to Italy increased 30 times. And with this growth rate, Italy has risen to become Vietnam's largest tuna import market in the EU.
It can be seen that Vietnam's tuna exports are showing a more positive trend. It is expected that Vietnam's tuna exports in the next 2 months will return to a level equivalent to the same period of 2022.
