DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on November 23
Thursday, November 23,2023AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND69,000 to VND72,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.
In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND72,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND69,500 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND72,000 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND69,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND70,500 per kilogram.
After the first two consecutive days of the week, domestic pepper prices showed signs of stabilization. Compared to the first day of November 2023, the price has increased by 3,500 VND/kg, while the price of pepper has lost 3,000 - 3,500 VND/kg in October 2023. The current pepper price is the same as at the beginning of October 2023.
The increase in domestic pepper prices is due to the increased demand for imports for the year-end holiday season from other countries and the falling USD, making exports more favorable. An increase has also been seen in a number of other pepper export markets in recent weeks.
However, opinions at forums of Vietnamese pepper makers also point to another reason, in addition to the two main factors mentioned above. That is the current capital flow is shifting to coffee. Coffee is currently in harvest season, with good prices helping farmers and traders in many areas feel excited. Therefore, the general psychology is that they want to sell pepper to get capital to convert to coffee, so agents try to collect it to supply the company. The above phenomenon temporarily pushed the market up, but it was not sustainable.
In the first half of November 2023, Vietnam exported 9,570 tons of pepper, worth 36.9 million USD. The US, China and UAE are the three main export markets in the first half of November with export volumes reaching 1,572 tons, 993 tons and 636 tons respectively.
At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed Lampung (Indonesia) black pepper price at 4,034 USD/ton, down 0.94%; Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper price ASTA 570 is at 3,000 USD/ton; Kuching (Malaysia) ASTA black pepper price remained at 4,900 USD/ton.
Muntok white pepper price was 6,222 USD/ton, down 0.96%; Malaysian ASTA white pepper price is still at 7,300 USD/ton.
Vietnam black pepper price is trading at 3,500 USD/ton of 500 g/l type, at 3,600 USD/ton of 550 g/l type; White pepper price is at 5,100 USD/ton.
