Rice exports set a record after only 10 months of 2023

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 10 months of 2023, Vietnam’s rice exports earned nearly 4 billion USD, the highest level over the same period since 2009.

The preliminary data from the General Department of Customs showed that Vietnam's rice exports in October reached 700,000 tonnes, equivalent to 433 million USD, flat in volume and up by 27% in value compared to October of 2022.
In the first 10 months of 2023, Vietnam has exported more than 7.1 million tonnes of rice, equivalent to nearly 4 billion USD, up by 17% in volume and 35% in value compared to the same period in 2022. Thus in the period, rice export turnover may reach its highest level compared to the same period of years since at least 2009.
The data from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) showed that, as of October 27, compared to the group of major rice exporting countries in the world, Vietnamese rice has the highest price.
Specifically, Vietnam's 5% broken rice is being sold for 643 USD/tonne, higher than the same type of rice from Thailand and Pakistan at 79 USD/tonne and 80 USD/tonne respectively. Vietnam's 25% broken rice traded at 628 USD/tonne, higher than similar products from Thailand and Pakistan at 106 USD/tonne and 140 USD/tonne, respectively.
