DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices decreased by 400 VND on October 5
Thursday, October 5,2023AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area fell by 400 VND to VND64,400 – VND65,200 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.
Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND65,200/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND64,400/kg. Robusta coffee decreased to VND64,400 in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND 64,900 – VND 65,000 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND65,100 - VND65,200 in Dak Nong; to VND64,800 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND64,800 - VND64,900 per kg in Gia Lai.
The General Statistics Office of Vietnam estimates that coffee exports in September will reach 90 thousand tonnes, approximately 1.5 million bags, up 6.32% over the previous month but down 6.81% over the same period last year. In the first 9 months of the year, Vietnam's coffee exports reached 1,207 million tonnes (about 20.12 million bags), down 11.65% over the same period last year. The above data shows that supply is facing difficulties in the world's second largest coffee producing country, thereby supporting price increases.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai - Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association said that this year, the price of domestic coffee has increased to 70,000 VND/kg. Up to now, prices have begun to decrease but remain at a high level.
Mr. Hai warned that this is the time when coffee prices are the highest in the past 30 years, there needs to be a warning to coffee growing localities, especially the Central Highlands provinces. Localities need to control people living near forests and promptly prevent deforestation to plant coffee trees.
Businesses that want to export coffee to Europe force them to change their farming thinking, towards sustainable production, with traceability, certification, production processes and product quality. Currently, the most difficult task that Vietnamese coffee businesses encounter is building a map to locate coffee gardens and trace their origin.
