Seafood imports reached over 1.73 billion USD in first 8 months of 2023
Friday, September 29,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 8 months of 2023, Vietnam’s imports of seafood products reached over 1.73 billion USD, down by 5.8% compared to the first 8 months of 2022.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s imports of seafood products in August of 2023 increased slightly by 8.3% compared to July of 2023 but decreased by 21% compared to August of 2022, reaching 238.35 million USD. Overall, in the first 8 months of 2023, the country’s total imports of this product group reached over 1.73 billion USD, down by 5.8% compared to the first 8 months of 2022.
The most imported seafood to Vietnam originated from India, accounting for 13.3% of the country's total import turnover of this product group, reaching 231.02 million USD, down by 7.6% compared to the first 8 months of 2022. In August of 2023 alone, the figure reached 24.27 million USD, down by 18.5% compared to July of 2023 and sharply down by 52% compared to August of 2022. The Norwegian market ranked second, accounting for 10.8%, reaching over 186.96 million USD, an increase of 12.8%. In August of 2023 alone, the imports from this market reached 25.14 million USD, up by 2% compared to July of 2023 and up by 0.6% compared to August of 2022.
The imports from the Chinese market in August of 2023 increased by 33.3% compared to July of 2023 and increased by 19.3% compared to August of 2022, reaching 20.5 million USD. Totally in the entire 8 months of 2023, the imports from this market decreased by 5.3% compared to the 8 months of 2022, reaching over 142.73 million USD, accounting for 8.2% of the total turnover.
The imports of seafood from FTA - RCEP markets in the first 8 months of 2023 reached 537.15 million USD, down by 11.6% compared to the first 8 months of 2022, accounting for 21% of the country's total import turnover of this product group. The seafood imports from FTA - CPTTP markets reached 268.36 million USD, accounting for 15.5%, an increase of 7.7%.
The seafood imports from Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) FTA markets reached 79.9 million USD, down by 17.6%, accounting for 4.6% while the seafood imports from the Southeast Asian market reached 213.4 million USD, down by 17.3% compared to the first 8 months of 2022, accounting for 12.3%.
