Rice exports increased by 35.7% in first 8 months of 2023
Monday, September 25,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 8 months of 2023, Vietnam exported over 5.81 million tonnes of rice, equivalent to over 3.16 billion USD, up by 21.4% in volume and by 35.7% in turnover compared to the first 8 months of 2022.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in August of 2023 the whole country exported 921,443 tonnes of rice, equivalent to 546.41 million USD, the average price reached 593 USD/tonne, an increase of 39.5% in volume and an increase of 50.7% in turnover and 8% increase in price compared to July of 2023. In comparison to August of 2022, the figure also increased by 28.8% in volume, 61.7% in turnover and 25.5% in price.
In August of 2023, rice exports to the main market Philippines continued to increase sharply by 68.7% in volume, 89% in turnover and 12% in price compared to July of 2023, reaching 409,656 tonnes, equivalent to 244.08 million USD, the price reached 595.8 USD/tonne. In comparison to August of 2022, it also increased by 33.3% in volume, increased by 77.9% in turnover and increased by 33.4% in price. Rice exports to the Chinese market in August of 2023 increased by 61.4% in volume, 66.8% in turnover and 3.3% in price compared to July of 2023, reaching 67,448 tonnes, equivalent to 38.61 million USD. In comparison to August of 2022, it also increased by 24.4% in volume, 45.8% in turnover and 17.2% in price.
For the entire eight months of 2023, the country's rice export volume reached over 5.81 million tonnes, equivalent to over 3.16 billion USD, up by 21.4% in volume and 35.7% in turnover compared to the previous year. In the first 8 months of 2022, the average price reached 543.9 USD/tonne, an increase of 11.8%.
The Philippines still ranked first in Vietnam's rice consumption, accounting for 40.3% of the total volume and 38.8% of the country's total rice export turnover, reaching nearly 2.35 million tonnes, equivalent to 1.23 billion USD, the average price reached 523.6 USD/tonne, up by 2.6% in volume, up by 15.6% in turnover and 12.7% in price compared to the first 8 months of 2022.
The next was the Chinese market, accounting for 13.5% of the total volume and 14.3% of the total turnover, reaching 786,102 tonnes, equivalent to 452.08 million USD, the average price was 575.1 USD/tonne, an increase 51% increase in volume and 67.9% increase in turnover; the price increased by 11.2% compared to the first 8 months of 2022.
The Indonesian market ranked third with 718,091 tonnes, equivalent to 361.25 million USD, the price was at 503 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 1,459% in volume, 1,506% increase in turnover and a slight increase of 3% in price compared to the first 8 months of 2022, accounting for 12.4% of the total volume and 11.4% of the country's total rice export turnover.
The exports to FTA RCEP markets reached 4.24 million tonnes, equivalent to 2.25 billion USD, up by 31.4% in volume and 46.3% in turnover. The exports to CPTTP FTA markets reached 399,994 tonnes, equivalent to 212.54 million USD, up by 6% in volume and 14.8% in turnover while the exports to the Southeast Asian market reached 3.43 million tonnes, equivalent to 1.78 billion USD, up by 28% in volume and by 42.4% in turnover.
