DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices rose by 500 VND on August 2

 Wednesday, August 2,2023

AsemconnectVietnam -  On Wednesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands increased by 500 VND to VND68,500 – VND72,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper rose to VND71,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND68,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND70,500 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND69,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND69,000 per kilogram.
This is the 2nd consecutive day of increase of the domestic market. The market is less quiet. The news about the harvest in countries such as Brazil and Indonesia is helping global pepper prices increase slightly. Along with that, the prediction of the crop failure and the coming festival season in India contributed to the increase in pepper prices.
According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam's pepper exports in July 2023 reached 16,000 tonnes, valued at $59 million, down 14.3% in volume and 25.1% in turnover over the same period last year. This is also the lowest export volume in the past 5 months.
The bright spot is that the average export price of pepper in July 2023 continued to increase by 2.1% compared to June 2023, reaching $3,688/tonne - the highest level since November 2022. However, the current export price is still nearly 13% lower than the same period in 2022.
Generally in the first 7 months of 2023, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 169,000 tonnes, valued at 542 million USD, up 18.6% in volume, down 15.1% in turnover compared to the same period in 2022. Pepper exports price in the first 7 months of the year averaged 3,214 USD/tonne, down 28.4% over the same period in 2022.
Thus, the export volume since the beginning of the year has increased but the value has not improved, making the industry target of billions of dollars this year continue to be far away.
