DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices increased by 500 VND on July 28

AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands rose by 500 VND to VND67,000 – VND70,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper increased to VND70,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND67,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND69,000 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND67,500 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND68,000 per kilogram.
In the first half of July 2023, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 7,063 tonnes, valued at 26.05 million USD, bringing the export of the first 6.5 months of the year to 159,715 tonnes, up 20.39% in volume but down 14.75% in value over the same period last year. The average export price of pepper in the period reached 3,688 USD/tonne, up 2.08% compared to the average export price of June 2023.
Vietnam exported 153,000 tons of pepper worth US$483 million in the first half of this year, up 24% in volume but down 13.7% in value year-on-year.
The average price stood at $3,184 per ton, a decrease of 29.7% from a year earlier, due to weaker global demand, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Pepper exports to the U.S., UAE, India, Germany, the Netherlands, the U.K., and South Korea declined by 20-70%.
China and the U.S.were Vietnam’s biggest markets, accounting for 35% and 16% of its exports.
According to the Vietnam Pepper Association, China has large inventories of pepper and so will import less in the second half of this year. It had imported 46,169 tons in the first five months of the year.
Other major importers like the U.S. and the European Union will also import less pepper due to their economic situation and high inventories.
