Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry and fishery exports reached 24.56 billion USD in first half of 2023

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first half of 2023 reached 24.59 billion USD, down by 11.1% over the same period of 2022.

In which, the exports of the main group of agricultural products reached 12.79 billion USD, up by 12%; livestock products reached 232 million USD, up by 26.5%; seafood reached 4.13 billion USD, down by 27.4%; main forest products reached 6.5 billion USD, down by 28.2%; production inputs reached 940 million USD, down by 28.9%; and salt reached 2.4 million USD, down by 14.2%.
In the first half of this year, there were 7 products and groups with export value of over 1 billion USD, including coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashew nuts, shrimp, wood products.
Specifically, in the first 6 months of 2023, coffee exports reached 2.4 billion USD; rubber reached 1.05 billion USD; rice reached 2.3 billion USD; vegetables and fruits reached 2.75 billion USD; cashew nuts reached 1.6 billion USD; shrimp reached 1.56 billion USD; wood products reached 4.07 billion USD.
Rice and cashew nuts are two products that increase in both volume and value. The rice exports increased by 22.2% in volume and 34.7% in export value; while the cashew exports increased by 10.5% in volume and 7.7% in export value; the exports of coffee alone decreased in volume (reaching 1.02 million tonnes, down by 2.2%), but thanks to the average export price increased by 5.2%, the export value reached 2.4 billion USD, up by 3%.
Regarding export markets, China, the United States and Japan were the three largest export markets for Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products. In which, the export value to the Chinese market accounted for 21.4%, up by 7.7%; the exports to the United States accounted for 20.2%, down by 32.9% and the exports to Japan accounted for 7.7%, down by 5.3%.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will closely coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to implement mechanisms and policies for trade promotion, negotiation to open and develop markets to promptly solve problems to promote the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products; proactively forecast and take advantage of opportunities from FTAs to promote exports.
At the same time, we will also grasp the situation of production, processing and consumption of agricultural products, promote circulation and border trade, implement urgent measures to reduce congestion and promote the exports of agricultural products at the northern border gates, especially for agricultural products in the harvest season.
In addition, the ministries will also coordinate with Embassies, Trade Counselors, and Agricultural Counselors of Vietnam in other countries to build channels for exchanging and providing information on export markets, enhancing promotion and publicity for products that have been opened, officially exported to markets associated with the Government's and Ministry's diplomatic activities to major markets (China, the United States, the EU, Russia, Brazil) and effectively exploit potential markets (Japan - Korea, Asean, Australia - New Zealand, Middle East, Africa...).
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will negotiate to export fresh coconuts to the United States; negotiate with Japan on new stamps for fresh Vietnamese mango and dragon fruit exports to Japan from August 1, 2023; as well as discuss with the General Department of Customs of China to finalize the draft Protocol on requirements for importing chili and traditional fresh fruits of Vietnam (except bananas); organize an online meeting with the General Administration of Customs of China on Orders 248 and 249 and remove difficulties and obstacles in export; host and work with the EU's inspection team to assess Vietnam's aquatic food safety control system and seafood processing enterprises, etc.
