DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on June 28
Wednesday, June 28,2023AsemconnectVietnam - On Wednesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND68,500 – VND71,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.
In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND71,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND68,500 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND70,500 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND69,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND69,500 per kilogram.
There are still a few months left until the harvest time of this year's coffee crop (from September to February next year). The hydrometeorological agency said that this year when El Nino appeared, the heat increased in the summer.
Rainfall will be short on most of the country with a prevalence of 25-50%, even historically Buon Ma Thuot recorded a shortage of 69%. Since then, there is a high risk of local or widespread drought in some regions, including the Central Highlands.
The impact of El Nino on Vietnam will increase in the last months of 2023 and early 2024. The dry season in the Central Highlands and the South is likely to be more severe, drought and saltwater intrusion may occur on a large scale. into this period.
Thus, this year's harvest is facing adverse weather conditions, leading to reduced productivity, slow release of new crops or adverse effects on the next crop's care. All of these factors will put a strain on supply, thereby pushing Robusta to continue to increase even while the harvest is in progress, like the same thing happened with pepper earlier this year.
According to preliminary data from the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA), Vietnam exported 11,305 tonnes of pepper in the first 18 days of June, and the total export value reached $41.1 million.
Vietnam has exported 2,657 tonnes of pepper to the Chinese market as of mid-June. Exports to US and EU markets have dropped.
China remains the top export market for Vietnamese pepper, with exports reaching 2,657 tonnes in the first 18 days of the month. The leading exporters are Nedspice Vietnam, Olam, and Pearl Group Corporation, with respective exports of 1,045 tonnes, 738 tonnes, and 670 tonnes.
Asia was the biggest destination for exports in the first five months of 2023, reaching 78,907 tonnes and accounting for 59.9 percent of total export turnover, with China being the largest export market with 46,169 tonnes, accounting for 35 percent and growing 1,668.9 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
In contrast, imports of Vietnamese pepper into the Americas and the US fell by 13.1 per cent and 15.5 percent, respectively. The EU region decreased by 9.4 percent during the same time period. Currently, 16.8 percent of Vietnam's total pepper export revenue comes from the EU.
