DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on June 15

 Thursday, June 15,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND71,000 – 74,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Nongnghiep.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND74,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND71,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND73,500 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND71,500 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND72,500 per kilogram.
According to statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association, in 5 months, Vietnam exported 131,777 tonnes of pepper of all kinds ( of which black pepper of 119,832 tonnes and white pepper of 11,945 tonnes). Total export turnover reached 408.9 million USD (black pepper of 354.1 million USD, white pepper of 54.7 million USD), increased by 30% year-on-year.
This week, information published by the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association shows that this year’s crop production increase has affected the market. Along with that, capital is pouring into coffee. This week, coffee exceeded 65,000 VND/kg, a record price of the market. The above factors limit the gaining momentum of pepper this week.
According to the report of IPC, the global pepper production in 2022 is estimated at 537 thousand tons, down 2% compared to 2021. The decrease in output mainly comes from Indonesia and Vietnam. It is forecasted that global pepper production in 2023 will continue to decrease by about 1% compared to 2022, reaching about 531 thousand tons. It is forecast that the purchasing power of pepper and spices of the European and US markets will continue to be quiet in the coming time when the economic crisis is still ongoing. The effects of climate change, especially drought, will continue to have a great impact on the maintenance and care of pepper gardens of farmers.
There are no reports of new pepper planting areas in the producing countries while the demand for pepper remains stable. In addition, many pepper farmers in the main producing countries such as Vietnam, Brazil and Indonesia are gradually switching to other crops with higher value. Therefore, the forecast of global pepper production continues to decrease.
According to the assessment, currently collected from pepper in Vietnam is the lowest compared to some other crops such as coffee, passion fruit, durian.
