Vietnam’s exports and imports of petroleum in April and first 4 months of 2023

AsemconnectVietnam - The preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs showed that, Vietnam's petroleum exports in April of 2023 decreased by 21.7% in volume and 22.7% in turnover compared to the previous month, reaching 185,208 tonnes, worth of 153.8 million USD, down by 12 USD/tonne from the previous month.

Generally, in the first 4 months of 2023, the country’s total exports of petroleum reached 739,619 tonnes, worth of 642.1 million USD, up by 0.8% in volume and down by 0.5% in value.
Leading petroleum export markets in the first four months of 2023
Cambodia was still Vietnam's largest petroleum export market in the first four months of 2023, with 214,299 tonnes, worth of 190 million USD, down by 22% in volume and 26.2% in value over the same period last year, accounting for 28-29% of total export volume and turnover. In April of 2023 alone, the country’s exports of petroleum reached 54,081 tonnes, worth of 46 million USD, down by 7.1% in volume and 7.8% in value.
The second place was South Korea, accounting for 9-10% of the total volume and turnover, reaching 67,654 tonnes, with a turnover of 66.1 million USD, up by 48% in volume and 59.5% in value. In April of 2023 alone, the country’s exports of petroleum reached 14,508 tonnes, worth of 13.1 million USD.
The country’s petroleum exports to the Chinese market accounted for more than 7-8% of the total volume and turnover, reaching 52,618 tonnes, with a turnover of 51.3 million USD, up by 103% in volume and up by 115.3% in value year – on – year In April of 2023 alone, the exports of petroleum to China increased by 37.5% in volume and decreased by 40.5% in value.
It was followed by Singapore market, accounting for 10.7% in total volume and 7% in total turnover, reaching 79,216 tonnes, with a turnover of 45.4 million USD, up by 147.1% in volume and 101.1% in value. In April of 2023 alone, the figure reached 24,858 tonnes, worth of 13.5 million USD.
The following were Laos, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Thailand, accounting for a small proportion of exports, less than 4% of the total volume and total turnover.
Vietnam’s petroleum imports in April and the first four months of 2023
The preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs showed that, Vietnam’s petroleum imports in April of 2023 decreased by 11.3% in volume and 12.5% in turnover compared to the previous month, reaching 667,243 tonnes, valued at 534.1 million USD.
Totally in the first 4 months of 2023, the amount of imported petroleum reached 3,260,169 tonnes, worth of 2.7 billion USD, down by 4.7% in volume and 15.8% in turnover over the same period of 2022.
Vietnam imported the most petroleum from South Korea in the first four months of 2023, accounting for nearly 40% of the total import volume and turnover, reaching 1,259,145 tonnes, worth of 1.06 billion USD, down by 9% in volume and by 22.8% decrease in turnover over the same period of 2022. In April of 2023 only, the imports of petroleum from South Korea decreased by 36.5% in volume and 39.1% in turnover compared to March of 2023, reaching 214,978 tonnes, worth of 167.1 million USD.
Singapore market followed, accounting for more than 25% of the total import volume and turnover in the first four months of 2023, reaching 825,715 tonnes, worth of 706.1 million USD, up by 83.3% in volume and 59.4 percent in turnover. In April of 2023 alone, the imports of petroleum reached 206,160 tonnes, worth of 164 million USD, up by 19.7% in volume and 15.9% in value.
The next was the Malaysian market, in the first four months of 2023, the exports of petroleum to Malaysia accounted for more than 14-15% of the total import volume and turnover, down by 24.2% in volume and by 28% in turnover, reaching 500,302 tonnes, worth of 408.6 million USD. In April of 2023 alone, the imports of petroleum from this market increased by 64.3% in volume and 101.6% in turnover.
