Corn imports increased in first 4 months of 2023
Tuesday, May 23,2023AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, corn imports of all kinds in the first 4 months of 2023 reached nearly 2.81 million tonnes, worth of nearly 950.49 million USD, the average price reached 338.3 USD/tonne, an increase 9.3% in volume, up by 11.6% in turnover and 2.1% in price compared to the first 4 months of 2022.
In April of 2023 alone reached 622,063 tonnes, equivalent to 212.02 million USD, the average price was 340.8 USD/tonne, down by nearly 19% in both volume and value compared to March of 2023, the price increased slightly by 0.3%. In comparison with April of 2022, it increased by 28.8% in volume, 21.8% in turnover but decreased by 5.4% in price.
Brazil was the main market supplying corn to Vietnam in the first 4 months of 2023, accounting for over 48.2% of the total volume and 47.6% of the total corn import turnover of the country, reaching 1.35 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 452.08 million USD, priced at 334.2 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 317.5% in volume, 333.6% increase in turnover and 3.9% increase in price compared to the first 4 months of 2022. The figure of April of 2023 alone reached 139,294 tonnes, equivalent to 47.39 million USD, priced at 340.2 USD/tonne, a sharp decrease of 64.6% in volume and 64% decrease in turnover compared to March of 2023, but the price increased slightly by 1.5%. In comparison with April of 2022, it increased sharply by 832.7% in volume, 812% in turnover, but the price decreased by 2.2%.
The second largest market was Argentina. In the first 4 months of 2023, the country’s imports of corn from that market reached 682,552 tonnes, equivalent to 230.82 million USD, priced at 338.2 USD/tonne, accounting for over 24% of the total volume and total corn import value of the whole country, down by 45.2% in volume, 44.7% in turnover, but prices increased slightly by 0.9% compared to the first 4 months of 2022.
India followed. In the first 4 months of 2023, the country’s imports of corn from India reached 584,847 tonnes, equivalent to 192.35 million USD, priced at 328.9 USD/tonne, accounting for over 20% of the total volume and total import turnover of corn of the whole country, increasing by 15.6 % in volume, up by 23% in turnover, and the price up by 6.4% over the same period last year.
