DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on May 16
Wednesday, May 17,2023AsemconnectVietnam - On Wednesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND75,000 – 77,000 per kg compared to Yesterday due to concerns about declining supply, according to Kinhtedothi,vn.
In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND77,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND73,500 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND76,500 per kilogram, Dong Nai province for VND74,500 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND75,000 per kilogram.
Many Vietnamese farmers tend to store large amounts of pepper in order to wait for higher prices.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich, an owner of a pepper purchasing agent in Long Phuoc ward in Binh Phuoc Province, revealed that although pepper prices have increased continuously in recent days, just households in need of money sell pepper while others are still storing pepper to wait for the price to rise higher.
According to Mr. Bui Quoc Hai, Director of Hung Phuoc Sustainable Pepper Cooperative in Bu Dop District of Binh Phuoc Province, the current price is still 10 percent-15 percent lower than the same period last year, many members in the cooperative have been taking a wait-and-see attitude with expectation for higher prices.
According to pepper growers in Lam San Commune in the Southern Province of Dong Nai’s Cam My District, pepper prices tend to increase, so farmers continue to store and wait for better prices.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association, in April 2023, Vietnam exported 26,291 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, of which 23,760 tonnes of black pepper and 2,531 tonnes of white pepper. In the first 4 months of 2023, Vietnam exported 103,018 tonnes of pepper. In which, exports to China's main pepper market reached 35,914 tonnes.
