DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on April 6

 Thursday, April 6,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND63,000 – 65,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi,vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND65,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND63,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND65,000 per kilogram, Dong Nai province for VND63,500 per kilogram and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND64,000 per kilogram.
Pepper prices are in a stable phase after a slight decrease at the end of March 2023. However, at the end of the first quarter of 2023, according to Kinhtedothi.vn, pepper prices in the provinces increased by an average of 5,500 VND/kg.
The recovery of pepper prices is due to the return of import markets, especially China, and concerns that the new harvest will not produce as expected.
Although slightly increased, but the current price has decreased deeply, losing more than 20,000 VND/kg over the same period. This caused the price of pepper, one of the commodities with high export value, to decrease compared to the same period last year. Although the export volume increased.
According to experts, the coffee trade in the domestic market is not active. Most of the local traders have switched to the pepper business due to the late stage of the new harvest.
However, this year's output is forecasted to be lower, so sales volume is also limited because farmers' psychology of keeping goods is high. Therefore, importers have shown signs of increasing purchases with long distance orders in the third and fourth quarters of 2023. But the volume traded is also not much.
Commenting on pepper prices in the short term, experts believe that the price will not be able to recover strongly in the context that the financial/banking situation in the world is still volatile. Meanwhile, the decrease in purchasing power from the Chinese market at the end of March 2023 is worrying.
The decline in pepper prices in April 2023 prevailed. But this year's low output along with limited supply from other countries will help the market moderate in the second quarter of 2023. The uptrend will be more pronounced in the following months.
