AsemconnectVietnam - Despite of a remarkable recovery signal in February, but in the first 2 months of the year, Vietnam’s exports of seafood; wood and wood products still fell deeply compared to the same period last year.

According to the latest preliminary data of the General Department of Customs, in February of this year, Vietnam’s seafood exports reached 610 million USD, up by 33.4% over the previous month. However, in general, in the first 2 months of this year, the exports of this group of goods still decreased by 29.1% compared to the same period last year (reaching more than 1.06 billion USD).
Meanwhile, the exports of wood and wood products reached 880 million USD, up by 9.2% over the previous month. Totally in the first 2 months of the year, the country’s exports of wood and products reached 1.68 billion USD, down by 31.8% over the same period last year.
By the end of February, these were the first two groups of agricultural exports with a turnover of 1 billion USD or more.
The main export markets of the above two groups of goods such as the United States, EU, China, and Japan.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the seafood industry is being affected by high inflation, which reduces purchasing power in key markets. Meanwhile, the exchange rate difference makes the exports from Vietnam more expensive than competitors in major import markets such as Europe and the United States.
