Positive signs in textile and garment raw material imports

 Monday, October 19,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures, the imports of raw materials and accessories for Vietnam’s textile and garment industry reached $2.68 billion in September of 2026, an increase of 12.73% from August of 2026 and 13.5% from September of 2025.

In the first nine months of 2026, the total imports of these materials reached $22.06 billion, up by 5.04% compared to the same period of 2025. This represents an improvement over the growth rates seen earlier in the year, as well as the 3.04% year-on-year growth recorded for the first nine months of 2025.
Consequently, the imports of textile and garment raw materials accelerated significantly in September of 2026, as evidenced by both the scale and the growth rate across various material categories. Notably, the imports of fabrics, cotton, and fibers all increased compared to the same period of 2025, with cotton and fibers/yarns showing double-digit growth. This trend serves as a positive indicator for textile and garment production and exports in the fourth quarter of 2026. The rise in raw material imports likely reflects efforts by businesses to secure inputs for orders scheduled for the final months of 2026 and the beginning of 2027.
It is also worth noting that the growth in raw material imports has outpaced the growth in certain domestic consumption indicators, suggesting that the primary driver for this demand is production intended for export orders. If export orders remain steady through the fourth quarter, the imports of raw materials and accessories may to continue rising, thereby supporting both production and the export value of textiles and garments in the final months of the year.
Overall, the preliminary statistics figures on the imports of textile and garment raw materials and accessories for September indicate that the sector is entering a more active production phase, characterized by a simultaneous increase in input imports and manufacturing output. This serves as a key basis for the expectation that Vietnam’s textile and garment exports will continue to grow throughout the final three months of 2026.
