Textile and garment sector sees growth in 2026
Tuesday, October 20,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures, Vietnam's textile and garment exports in September of 2026 were estimated at $4.11 billion, a 12.97% decrease from August of 2026 but a 5.96% increase compared to September of 2025.
In the first nine months of 2026, the country's total exports in this sector were estimated at over $36.43 billion, up by 3.22% year-on-year; however, this growth rate was significantly lower than the 7.5% increase recorded during the same period of 2025 compared to 2024.
The exports of the textile and garment sector are forecast to continue growing during the final three months of 2026, though the pace may vary across different product categories. Based on current export trends, the sector's total export value for the full year of 2026 is likely to exceed $48–$48.6 billion, surpassing the $47.1 billion recorded in 2025, driven primarily by raw material exports and an uptick in garment orders during the year-end peak season. Regarding garments, although export value in September rose by 4.06% year-on-year, the cumulative figure for the first nine months increased by only 1.95%; while this marks an improvement over the 1.21% growth seen in the first seven months, it remains far below the 8.77% growth recorded during the same period of 2025.
This indicates a slow recovery in demand for garments, suggesting that export growth will likely remain moderate during the final months of the year. Nevertheless, driven by seasonal factors, as businesses ramp up deliveries for the 2026 year-end and early 2027 holiday seasons, garment export value is still expected to improve compared to the first half of the year.
Meanwhile, textile fibers, yarns, and raw materials/accessories for the textile, garment, leather, and footwear sectors continue to be bright spots. Cumulative exports of fibers and yarns rose by 13.07% over the nine-month period, surpassing the 11.11% growth recorded in the first seven months; exports of raw materials and accessories increased by 9.46% year-on-year, reflecting sustained demand for inputs within the regional textile and garment supply chain. This trend is expected to persist through the final three months of the year, contributing to the overall growth of the industry.
