Friday, October 9,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery export in the first nine months of this year reached US$56.3 billion, an increase of 7.8%. Notably, fruit and vegetable export increased by nearly 20% and seafood export increased by 12.3%, creating important momentum for overall growth.
According to data released by Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on the afternoon of October 1st, in the first nine months of 2026, Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery exports are estimated to reach US$56.3 billion, an increase of 7.8% compared to the same period last year; trade surplus reached US$16.9 billion, an increase of 7.4%. In September 2026 alone, value of agricultural, forestry and fishery export is estimated at US$6.51 billion, an increase of 5.7% compared to the same period last year. For the first nine months, agricultural sector reached US$29.28 billion, an increase of 3.1%. Livestock products reached US$564.4 million, an increase of 24.6%; seafood reached US$9.17 billion, an increase of 12.3%. Forestry product export reached nearly US$14.41 billion, an increase of 7.6%; production inputs reached US$2.86 billion, an increase of 58.2%; and salt reached US$11.3 million, an increase of 35.1%.
Among key commodities, fruits and vegetables continued to record significant growth. In the first nine months, fruit and vegetable export reached nearly US$7.35 billion, an increase of 19.9% compared to the same period in 2025. China remains the largest market, accounting for 63% of total export value of fruits and vegetables; followed by the United States and South Korea. Seafood also maintained its growth momentum, with nine-month export value reaching US$9.17 billion, an increase of 12.3%. China, the United States and Japan are the three largest consuming markets. In forestry products group, exports of wood and wood products reached nearly US$13.43 billion, an increase of 7.3%. The United States accounted for 50.1% of market share, followed by China and Japan.
Several other items also showed positive results. Pepper export reached US$1.4 billion, an increase of 10.2%; cashew nuts reached US$3.85 billion, an increase of 2%; and livestock products reached US$564.4 million, an increase of 24.6%.
Export picture of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products in the first nine months was not entirely uniform, with some key items decreasing in both volume and value. Coffee is a notable case. In the first nine months, Vietnam exported approximately 1.4 million tonnes, worth US$6.54 billion. Volume increased by 15.4%, but value decreased by 7.3% compared to the same period last year. Average export price reached approximately US$4,537/tonne, a decrease of 19.7%.
Rice export reached 6.4 million tonnes, valued at US$3.11 billion, decreasing by 6.1% and 10.9% respectively. Average export price of rice decreased by 5.1%, to approximately US$484.8/ton. Rubber export also decreased by 4.4% in value, to US$2.18 billion, while export volume decreased by 16.2%. Conversely, average export price increased by 14.1%. Cassava and cassava products decreased by 4.5% in value, although average export price increased by 23.5%. These development show that growth in agricultural, forestry and fisheries export is being generated from a combination of increased production, market expansion and price fluctuations. For some sectors, increased volume does not necessarily translate into increased export value.
Regarding markets, Asia continues to be Vietnam's largest export region for agricultural, forestry and fisheries products, accounting for 49.4%. Next comes the Americas at 22.2% and Europe at 13.5%. Within specific markets, China accounts for 24.4%, the United States at 19.8% and Japan at 7.4%. In the first nine months of this year, export of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products to Asia increased by 11.9%, to the Americas by 2.3%, to Europe by 2.6% and to Oceania by 15.5%; while export to Africa decreased by 16.7%.
With goal of achieving agricultural, forestry and aquatic product export of US$74 billion or more in 2026, US$56.3 billion achieved after nine months shows that the fourth quarter remains a crucial period for completing the plan. Ministry of Agriculture and Environment aims to continue focusing on implementing development tasks for the sector, striving to achieve export target of US$74 billion or more.
