AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s industrial production in the first 7 months of 2026 showed positive growth with the Industrial Production Index (IIP) reaching 11.4%, the highest level in many years, thanks to the main contribution of the processing and manufacturing industry and new production capacity, helping 34 localities record favorable growth.

According to data reported by the General Statistics Office, Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index (IIP) in July of 2026 was estimated to increase by 1.2% compared to the previous month and by 14.5% compared to the same period last year. Overall, in the first 7 months of 2026, the IIP increased by 11.4% compared to the same period last year, the highest increase for the first seven months of the year in many years.
Contributing to overall growth, the manufacturing industry in July of 2026 increased by 15.0% year-on-year; the water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment industry increased by 14.9%; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 12.5%; and the mining industry increased by 10.4%.
Overall, for the first seven months of 2026, the industrial production index (IIP) of the manufacturing industry increased by 12.0% (compared to a 10.1% increase in the same period of 2025), contributing 9.3 percentage points to the overall growth; the mining industry increased by 6.6% (compared to a 2.4% decrease in the same period of 2025), contributing 1.0 percentage point; and the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 9.9% (compared to a 4.8% increase in the same period of 2025), contributing 0.9 percentage points. The water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment sector increased by 10.0% (compared to a 10.1% increase in the same period of 2025), contributing 0.2 percentage points.
The report from the General Statistics Office noted that the industrial production index for the first seven months of 2026 for several key second-level industries increased compared to the same period last year, including metals increased by 23.5%; motor vehicles increased by 16.0%; beverages increased by 15.7%; other non-metallic mineral products and other transport equipment manufacturing both increased by 13.5%; beds, cabinets, tables, and chairs increased by 13.3%; electronic products, computers and optical products and prefabricated metal products (excluding machinery and equipment) both increased by 12.8%; chemicals and chemical products increased by 12.5%; the production of rubber and plastic products, wood processing, and production of products from wood, bamboo, and rattan (excluding beds, cabinets, tables, and chairs); the production of products from straw and woven materials all increased by 12.2%; food processing increased by 11.2%; and crude oil and natural gas extraction increased by 10.3%.
Conversely, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) of the hard coal and lignite mining industry decreased by 3.1%.
Regarding the industrial production situation of localities in the first seven months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, the report from the General Statistics Office indicates an increase in all 34 localities. Some localities achieved significant increases in the IIP thanks to the high growth in the processing and manufacturing industry and the electricity production and distribution industry. However, some localities still experienced low IIP growth due to low or declining growth in the processing and manufacturing industry, the mining industry, and the electricity production and distribution industry.
Besides industry indicators, the output of key industrial goods also clearly reflects the consumption demand and supply capacity of the economy. Specifically, in the first seven months of 2026, motorcycle production increased by 31.1%; laptop production increased by 30.7%; rolled steel production increased by 24.7%; automobile production increased by 24.3%; processed seafood production increased by 21.2%; refined sugar production increased by 18.5%; steel bars and angles increased by 16.8%; beer production increased by 13.9%; and crude oil production increased by 12.7% compared to the same period last year.
However, conversely, some products decreased compared to the same period last year: NPK compound fertilizer decreased by 10.9%; MSG decreased by 7.8%; leather shoes and sandals decreased by 4.9%; and coal (clean coal) decreased by 3.1%.
Regarding the employment situation in industrial enterprises, the General Statistics Office report indicates that as of July 1, 2026, the number of workers increased by 1.0% compared to the same period the previous month and by 3.1% compared to the same period the previous year.
By sector, the number of workers in mining enterprises increased by 0.1% compared to the same period the previous month and decreased by 1.3% compared to the same period the previous year; the manufacturing sector increased by 1.1% and by 3.3%; the electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning production and distribution sector remained unchanged and increased by 1.4%; and the water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment sector increased by 0.1% and by 3.7%.
