Currently, Vietnam is Canada's leading trading partner in ASEAN and Canada's 6th largest trading partner in the group of 40 Indo-Pacific countries.
It can be affirmed that the opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to expand exports to the Canadian market is huge. However, the limitation is that Vietnamese enterprises do not have much information about the market, consumer tastes as well as preferential export policies and trade defense measures of Canada. According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to Canada in December of 2024 reached 557.5 million USD, down by 0.9% compared to the previous month.
In 2024, the total export turnover to the Canadian market reached more than 6.37 billion USD, an increase of 13.4% compared to the previous year.
In 2024, the item with the largest export turnover to the Canadian market was still textiles and garments, with a value of 1.2 billion USD, an increase of 10.4%, accounting for 19% of the export proportion.
Some items with export turnover growth in 2024 compared to the same period last year, such as machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts increased by 90%; computers, electronic products and components increased by 34.8%; pepper increased by 81.4%; glass and glass products increased by 209.3%; cameras, camcorders and components increased by 162.4%.
