List of Vietnam's largest ore and mineral import markets

According to the latest data from General Department of Customs, from the beginning of 2024 to August 15, Vietnam spent 1.78 billion USD to import 16.1 million tonnes of ore and minerals. Compared to the same period last year, import volume increased by 23.8%; turnover also increased by 25.3% compared to the same period last year.
In terms of markets, Vietnam imported this item from 21 main markets in the first 7 months of 2024. Australia is the largest import market for ores and minerals from Vietnam with 6.7 million tonnes, up 34.9% over the same period last year. Brazil is the second largest market with 4.26 million tonnes, up 55% over the same period last year.
Notably, import volume of ores and minerals from Turkey recorded a sharp increase from 11,571 tonnes in the previous period to 166,258 tonnes in this period. Vietnam also imported 130,372 tonnes from India, up 8.7% over the same period last year.
China is the only market among the eight largest markets that has a decrease in volume with 35.3% compared to the same period last year, to 332,862 tonnes.
The eight largest markets importing ores and minerals from Vietnam also include Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. Accordingly, import volume from Laos reached 1.2 million tonnes, up 18.8% over the same period last year; Thailand with 684,709 tonnes, up 18.5% over the same period last year and Cambodia with 444,677 tonnes, up 247% over the same period last year.
In the ASEAN bloc, Vietnam also imported 40,479 tonnes from Malaysia, up 47.9% over the same period last year; Myanmar with 3,232 tonnes, down 19.2%; Singapore with 834 tonnes, down 65.3% over the same period last year.
In terms of turnover, ores and minerals from Australia had the largest import turnover with 782 million USD, up 39.3% over the same period last year; Brazil with 509 million USD, up 45.3% over the same period last year.
Vietnam spent 46.6 million USD to import this item from Laos, up 23.9% over the same period last year; from Thailand with 53.9 million USD, up 127% over the same period last year; from Cambodia with 37.2 million USD, up 247% over the same period last year.
In ASEAN bloc, Vietnam spent 9.2 million USD to import ores and minerals from Malaysia, up 29.5% over the same period last year; spent 7.2 and 1.6 million USD to import from Myanmar and Singapore, down 24% over the same period last year and 63% over the same period last year, respectively.
