Vietnam’s imports of raw materials for animal feed production in June and 6 months of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s imports of corn of all kinds in the first 6 months of 2024 reached nearly 4.85 million tonnes, worth of nearly 1.22 billion USD.

Meanwhile, the country's imports of wheat in the first 6 months of 2024 reached over 3.12 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 862.33 million USD and soybean imports in the first 6 months of 2024 reached over 1.06 million tonnes, worth of nearly 561.48 million USD.
Vietnam's corn imports in June and the first 6 months of the year
The preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs showed that Vietnam’s imports of corn of all kinds in the first 6 months of 2024 reached nearly 4.85 million tonnes, worth of nearly 1.22 billion USD, with an average price of 250.6 USD/per tonne, up by 30.6% in volume, but down by 1.6% in turnover and down by 24.7% in price compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
In June of 2024 alone, it reached 654,232 tonnes, equivalent to 158.58 million USD, the average price was 242.4 USD/tonne, down by 13.3% in volume, down by 14.8% in turnover and price down by 1.7% compared to May of 2024. Compared to June of 2023, it increased by 29.4% in volume, increased by 2.1% in turnover but decreased by 21.1% in price.
Vietnam's main corn import markets in the first 6 months of 2024
Argentina was the largest market supplying corn to Vietnam in the first 6 months of 2024, accounting for 52.5% of the total volume and 50.7% of the country's total corn import turnover, reaching over 2.54 million. tonnes, equivalent to over 616.6 million USD, the price was 242.3 USD/tonne, up by 131.4% in volume, up by 68.3% in turnover but down by 27.3% in price compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
The second largest market was Brazil. In the first 6 months of 2024, the country’s imports of corn from Brazil reached over 1.49 million tonnes, equivalent to 383.17 million USD, priced at 256.8 USD/tonne, accounting for over 30.8% of the total volume and accounting for 31 5% of the country's total corn import turnover, up by 8.1% in volume, but down by 16.7% in turnover and price down by 23% compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
The imports of corn from Laos market in the first 6 months of 2024 reached 74,589 tonnes, equivalent to 18.64 million USD, priced at 249.9 USD/tonne, accounting for over 1.5% of the country's total corn import volume and turnover; increased by 23.5% in volume, but decreased by 11.7% in turnover and price decreased by 28.5% over the same period last year.
Vietnam's wheat imports in June and the first 6 months of 2024
In the first 6 months of 2024, the country's imports of wheat reached over 3.12 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 862.33 million USD, an increase of 25.9% in volume, but a decrease of 3.3% in turnover compared to the same period of 2023.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in June of 2024, the country imported 288.14 tonnes of wheat, equivalent to 81.45 million USD, the average price was 282.7 USD/tonne, down by 46% in volume, and the turnover decreased by 42.3% compared to May of 2024 but price increased by 6.9%. Compared to June of 2023, there was a sharp decrease of 35.6% in volume, a decrease of 45.8% in turnover and a decrease of 15.9% in price.
Overall, in the first 6 months of 2024, the country's imported wheat amount reached over 3.12 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 862.33 million USD, an increase of 25.9% in volume, but a decrease of 3.3% in value. Compared to the first 6 months of 2023, the average price reached 276 USD/tonne, down by 23.3%.
Vietnam's main wheat import markets in June and the first 6 months of 2024
In June of 2024, wheat imports from the main market Brazil continued to decrease sharply by 88.9% in volume and 88.7% in turnover compared to May of 2024, but the price increased slightly by 1.5%, reaching 20,416 tonnes, equivalent to 5.11 million USD, the price was USD/tonne; while in June of 2023 there was no imports from this market. In the first 6 months of 2024, wheat imports from the Brazilian market accounted for 36.8% of the total volume and 33.3% of the country's total wheat import turnover, reaching over 1.15 million tonnes, equivalent to 287.37 million USD, the average price was 249.8 USD/tonne, up by 339.8% in volume, up by 200% in turnover but down by 31.8% in price compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
Behind the main market of Brazil was the Australian market, accounting for 20.7% of the total volume and 23.3% of the total turnover, reaching 646,844 tonnes, equivalent to over 201 million USD, the average price was 310.8 USD/tonne, down by 64% in volume, down by 68% in turnover and down by 11.1% in price compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
The next was the Ukrainian market with 545,052 tonnes, equivalent to 141.52 million USD, priced at 259.6 USD/tonne, accounting for 17.5% of the total volume and 16.4% of the country's total wheat import turnover, increased bt 901.9% in volume, increased 681.2% in turnover but decreased 22% in price.
Wheat imports from the US market reached 226,157 tonnes, equivalent to 74.54 million USD, priced at 329.6 USD/tonne, up by 31.8% in volume, up by 6% in turnover but down by 19.5% in prices compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
Vietnam's soybean imports in June and 6 months of 2024
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, soybean imports in the first 6 months of 2024 reached over 1.06 million tonnes, worth of nearly 561.48 million USD, average price of 527.4 USD/tonne, down by 48% in volume, 22.9% decrease in turnover and 19% decrease in price compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
In June of 2024 alone, the figure reached 69,028 tonnes, equivalent to 35.42 million USD, average price was 513.1 USD/tonne, down by over 69.5% in both volume and turnover compared to May of 2024, but the price increased slightly by 1.4%. Compared to June of 2023, it also decreased sharply by 71.3% in volume, 74.7% in turnover and 12% in price.
Vietnam's main soybean import markets in June and the first 6 months of 2024
Brazil was the largest market supplying soybeans to Vietnam in the first 6 months of 2024, accounting for nearly 55.6% of the total volume and 53.4% of the country's total soybean import turnover, reaching 591,770 tonnes, equivalent to nearly 299.72 million USD, priced at 506.5 USD/tonne, up by 13.5% in volume, but down by 6.1% in turnover and down by 17.3% in price compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
The second largest market was the US. In the first 6 months of 2024, the country’s imports of soybean from the U.S reached 377,302 tonnes, equivalent to 205.88 million USD, priced at 545.7 USD/tonne, accounting for 35.4% of the total volume and 36.7% of the total import turnover, down by 19.3% in volume, down by 35.8% in turnover and price down by 20.4% compared to the first 6 months of 2023.
The next was the Canadian market. In the first 6 months of 2024, the country’s imports of soybean from Canada reached 57,299 tonnes, equivalent to 35.03 million USD, priced at 611.3 USD/tonne, accounting for 5.4% of total volume and 6.2% of total import turnover; decreased by 12% in volume, 27% in turnover and 17% in price compared to the same period last year.
