DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on February 19
Monday, February 19,2024AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND83,000 to VND86,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.
The maximum price for pepper stayed at VND86,000 per kg in Binh Phuoc, while in Dong Nai province, the lowest price stayed at VND83,000 per kg. Farmers in Dac Lac and Dak Nong sold pepper for VND85,000 per kilogram, in Gia Lai province for VND83,000 per kilogram, and in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province for VND85,000 per kilogram.
Last week, domestic pepper prices increased by an average of 2,000 VND/kg with a series of 6 consecutive days of increases in localities.
Commenting on the market this week, experts said the upward momentum is still there even though localities are entering the peak harvest season. The purchasing power of export companies will push prices up when they cannot delay deliveries any longer.
As noted by Gia Lai newspaper, after the Lunar New Year, farmers in some localities started the pepper harvest. This year, people are excited when pepper prices increase compared to previous years, helping them make a profit and regain confidence in this economically valuable crop.
According to Gia Lai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, by the end of 2023, the whole province will have 8,798 hectares of pepper, with an output of about 28,580 tonnes. In the 2024 harvest, pepper prices are recovering and increasing again, bringing many expectations to growers.
Mr. Nguyen Long Khanh - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Chu Puh district - said that in the district there are about 1,100 hectares of pepper for business. From the beginning of January 2024, people started harvesting and after the Lunar New Year, the harvest was in full swing. This year, the weather is favorable and the prices of agricultural products have increased compared to previous years, so farmers are very excited.
In particular, in recent years, thanks to investment in organic farming, pepper plants rarely die and this year's productivity is expected to increase by 1-2 tons/ha higher than last year, averaging about 3 tonnes/ha.
According to Standing Vice Chairman of Chu Se Pepper Association Hoang Phuoc Binh, pepper prices are increasing again, but people are not pressured to sell early like in previous years because the prices of coffee and durian have increased, many households have a stable income.
According to forecasts of experts and pepper exporters, in the near future, pepper prices may increase further due to supply shortage. This is a motivation for people to associate with businesses that produce intensive pepper farming towards organic, export standards to improve quality and economic value.
