Seafood exports reached over 6.6 billion USD in first 9 months of 2023
Tuesday, October 31,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 9 months of 2023, Vietnam’s exports of seafood products reached over 6.6 billion USD, down by 22.1% compared to the first 9 months of 2022.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s exports of seafood products in September of 2023 decreased by 5.2% compared to August of 2023 and decreased by 5% compared to September of 2022, reaching over 814.02 million USD. Overall, in the first 9 months of 2023, the country’s exports of this product group reached over 6.6 billion USD, down by 22.1% compared to the first 9 months of 2022.
The US market accounted for 17.7% of the country's total export turnover of this product group, reaching nearly 1.17 billion USD, down by 33.8% compared to the first 9 months of 2022. In September of 2023 alone, the country’s exports of seafood to the US reached 149.86 million USD, down by 9.3% compared to August of 2023 but up by 6.7% compared to September of 2022.
Japanese market ranked second, accounting for 16.7%, reaching over 1.1 billion USD, down by 12.9% over the same period last year. In September of 2023 alone, the exports to this market reached 129.25 million USD, down by 4.4% compared to August of 2023 and down by 9% compared to September of 2022.
The Chinese market followed. In September of 2023, the country’s exports of seafood to China increased by 12.8% compared to August of 2023 but decreased by 2.3% compared to September of 2022, reaching 140.69 million USD. In total, the exports to this market in the first 9 months of 2023 decreased by 15.9% compared to the first 9 months of 2022, reaching over 1.01 billion USD, accounting for 15.4% of the country's total export turnover of this product group.
Seafood exports to the FTA RCEP market in the first 9 months of 2023 decreased by 16% compared to the first 9 months of 2022, reaching nearly 3.42 billion USD, accounting for 51.8% of the total turnover; while the exports to the FTA CPTTP market decreased by 19.7%, reaching nearly 1.76 billion USD, accounting for 26.6%. The exports to the EU market accounted for 9.9% of total turnover, reaching over 651.72 million USD, down by 33.4% and the exports to the Southeast Asian market accounted for 7.5% of total turnover, reaching nearly 496.14 million USD, down by 15.2%.
