However, in the first half of 2022, pangasius imports from Vietnam to the US increased sharply, causing inventories in the US to increase. The average price of pangasius exports to the US in August reached 2.92 USD/kg, down 44% compared to the same period last year. This is also the deepest decrease since the beginning of this year. This price decreased by 5% compared to the previous month.
According to data from the World Trade Center (ITC), in the first 7 months of 2023, the US imported more than 1 billion USD of white meat fish from the world and imported more than 199 million USD from Vietnam. Vietnam accounts for 18% of the total import value of white fish products from the US. China is the largest supplier to the US, accounting for 45% of the market share.
