Vietnam's coffee exports decreased sharply in September of 2023
Wednesday, October 4,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In September of 2023, Vietnam’s coffee exports were estimated to reach 65,000 tonnes, worth of 205 million USD, down by 32.7% in volume and by 12.8% in value compared to the same period last year.
The Import-Export Department (under the Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited the statistics figures from the General Department of Customs as saying that Vietnam's coffee exports in September of 2023 were estimated to reach 65,000 tonnes, worth of 205 million USD, down by 23. 2% in volume and 20.8% decrease in value compared to August of 2023. The figure was 32.7% decrease in volume and 12.8% decrease in value compared to September of 2022.
In the first 9 months of 2023, Vietnam's coffee exports were estimated to reach 1,266 million tonnes, worth of 3.16 billion USD, down by 7.3% in volume, but up by 1.9% in value over the same period last year. Regarding price: It is estimated that in September of 2023, Vietnam's average coffee export price reached 3,151 USD/tonne, up by 3.2% compared to August of 2023 and up by 29.6% compared to September of 2022.
Totally in the first 9 months of 2023, Vietnam's average coffee export price was estimated to reach 2,499 USD/tonne, up by 9.9% over the same period of 2022.
Notably, Robusta and Arabica coffee exports decreased over the same period in 2022, but Excelsa and processed coffee exports increased.
In September of 2023, Robusta coffee prices in the domestic market increased. On September 28, 2023, the price of Robusta coffee increased from 700 - 1,000 VND/kg compared to the end of August 2023. Specifically, in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces, Robusta coffee prices increased by 700 VND/kg, to 66,100 - 66,300 VND/kg. In Lam Dong province, the price increased by 800 VND/kg, to 65,700 VND/kg. In Gia Lai province, the price increased the most by 1,000 VND/kg, to 66,100 VND/kg.
Regarding the coffee industry, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is submitting an action plan to the Prime Minister to adapt to the new regulations of European Commission on Deforestation (EUDR). Therefore, the ministry hopes to build an ecosystem with a group of partners to work with the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) and JDE Peet's Group to build a roadmap for compliance with new regulations.
