 Wednesday, August 16,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Wednesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND70,000 to VND72,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND74,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND71,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND73,000 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND71,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND72,000 per kilogram.
In the newly published Pepper and Spices Situation report, the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association said that currently in Brazil, the harvest has begun in the state of Espirito Santo and is expected to decrease in production compared to that of Brazil. last year due to the influence of heavy rain from October last year until February this year.
In Indonesia, the harvest has already begun and lasts from July to September. Indonesia's 2023 pepper production is expected to be lower than in 2022.
India ends the 2023 harvest in April with output expected at 64,000 tonnes, down 9% year-on-year.
According to the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, in the first half of 2023, the country's pepper exports reached about 4,300 tons, down 31% compared to the same period last year, due to the global economic downturn leading to orders dropped from the markets. Cambodia's pepper production also decreased due to the effects of climate change.
In Sri Lanka, the rice harvest season ended in July with production forecast to be slightly higher than the previous year and estimated at 25,550 tonnes.
According to IPC, the cultivated area of Malaysia in 2023 is estimated to increase 2% compared to 2022 to reach 8,170 hectares. Malaysia's 2023 pepper production is estimated at 23,000 tons, up 5% compared to 2022, mainly due to favorable weather in the 2021-2023 period.
Thus, the picture of this year's crop output is relatively clear with most major producing countries declining. Only Malaysia and Sri Lanka increased slightly. However, the export volume and output of these two countries are not high in the total of more than 500,000 tons of pepper supplied to the global market each year.
From now until the end of the year, consumption will increase again along with the economic recovery of other countries. This is a signal to help optimistic pepper recovery in the country.
