Exports of rice to Philippines and Ivory Coast increased sharply
Tuesday, November 26,2019AsemconnectVietnam - The Philippines and Cote d'Ivoire were Vietnam's two leading rice consuming markets, with a very strong growth of over 100 per cent in volume over the same period last year.
According to preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s rice exports in the first 10 months of 2019 increased by 4.9 per cent in volume over the same period last year, reaching 5.51 million tons, but the turnover decreased by 8.8 per cent, reached 2.41 billion USD and the export price also decreased by 13.1 per cent, reaching an average of 437.9 USD per ton.
The Philippines ranked first in Vietnam's rice export markets with 1.94 million tons, equivalent to 800.25 million USD, at the priece of 411.8 USD per ton, up by 182.3 per cent in volume and 156 per cent in turnover but down by 9.3 per cent in price over the same period of 2018, accounting for 35.3 per cent of the country's total rice exports and accounting for 33.2 per cent of the total rice export turnover.
Ivory Coast ranked second in the market, with 517,197 tons, equivalent to 223.05 million USD, with the average price of 431.3 USD per ton, up by 144.1 per cent in volume and 83 per cent in turnover, but plummeted by 25 per cent of the price, accounting for over 9 per cent of the total volume and export turnover of the country.
The exports of rice to the Chinese market dropped sharply in volume, turnover and price, with a corresponding reduction of 65.4 per cent, 66.7 per cent and 3.6 per cent over the same period of 2018, reaching 427,546 tons, equivalent to 212.02 million USD, the price was at 495.9 USD per ton, accounting for 7.8 per cent of the country's total rice exports and accounted for 8.8 per cent of total rice export turnover.
Rice exports to Malaysia market in the first 10 months reached 490,798 tons, equivalent to 194.68 million USD, the price was at 396.7 USD per ton, up by 6.4 per cent in volume but down by 6.6 per cent in turnover and down bu 12.2 per cent in price over the same period last year, accounting for over 8 per cent of the total rice exports of the country.
In terms of rice export growth in the first 10 months of this year compared to the same period in 2018, the majority of markets increased in turnover. In particular, the exports to Senegal though only reached 62,915 tons, equivalent to 20.36 million USD, but compared to the same period of 2018, it increased by 56.4 times in volume and 44.3 times in value. Besides, the exports to Belgium also increased sharply by 164.5 per cent in volume and 205.7 per cent in turnover, reaching 1,378 tons, equivalent to 931,662 USD; to Brunei - increased by 175 per cent in volume and 159.7 per cent in turnover, reaching 7,891 tons, equivalent to 3.28 million USD; to Angola - increased by 287.4 per cent in volume and 154.5 per cent in turnover, reaching 15,608 tons, equivalent to 5.8 million USD; to Russia - increased by 164.6 per cent in volume and 139.4 per cent in turnover, reaching 22,414 tons, equivalent to 9.2 million USD.
In contrast, rice exports to Indonesia plunged the most, down by nearly 96 per cent in volume and turnover over the same period last year, reaching only 33,177 tons, equivalent to 14.73 million USD; to Bangladesh - decreased by 74.4 per cent in volume and 78.3 per cent in turnover, reaching 5,114 tons, equivalent to 1.87 million USD; to Turkey - decreased by 72.2 per cent in volume and 77.2 per cent in turnover, reaching 1,311 tons, equivalent to 0.62 million USD.
