In June of 2019 alone, the imports of farbrics reached 1.12 billion USD, declinedafter 3 consecutive months of increase, by 18.4 per cent compared to May of 2019. China was the largest market supplying apparel fabrics to Vietnam in the first six months of this year, accounting for 57.8 per cent of the total fabric import value of the country, reaching more than 3.79 billion USD, up by 10.4 per cent over the same period of 2018. In June of 2019, the country’s imports of fabrics from this market decreased by 18.8 per cent compared to May of 2019 but increased by 3.4 per cent compared to June of 2018, reaching 652.77 million USD.

The imports of fabrics from the Korean market accounted for 15.9 per cent of the total with the import value of 1.04 billion USD, down by 4.6 per cent over the same period last year. In June of 2019, the country’s imports of fabrics reached 184.54 million USD, decreased by 14.7 per cent compared to May of 2019 and also decreased by 14.4 per cent compared to June of 2018.

Meanwhile, the imports of fabrics from Taiwan market reached 796.65 million USD, accounting for 12.1 per cent, down by 1.2 per cent over the same period last year. In June of 2019, it was 120.13 million USD, down by 24.2 per cent compared to May 5 of 2019 and decreased by 2.5 per cent compared to June of 2018.

The imports of fabrics from the Japanese market in 6 months accounted for only 5.8 per cent of the total, reaching 382.36 million USD, up by 5.1 per cent. In June of 2019, the figure was at 75.19 million USD, an increase of 3.6 per cent compared to May of 2019 but decreased by 0.5 per cent compared to June of 2018.

In general, in the first 6 months of this year, the country’s imports of apparel fabrics from the majority of markets increased their value compared to the same period last year, in which there was a sharp increase in some of the following markets: from the Philippines - increased by 37.7 per cent, reached 0.17 million USD; from Italy - increased by 23.4 per cent, reaching 60.66 million USD; from Malaysia - increased by 14.5 per cent, reaching 51.08 million USD. In contrast, the imports of fabrics dropped sharply in the following markets: from Germany - fell by 24.2 per cent, reaching 18.51 million USD; from Hong Kong – fell by 23 per cent to 92.17 million USD; from Pakistan - fell by 18.9 per cent, reaching 16.9 million USD.
