Imports of cashew nuts saw growth in volume
Wednesday, August 7,2019AsemconnectVietnam - In June 2019, Vietnam’s imports of cashew nuts increased in both quantity and value over the previous month.
The figure brought the amount of imported cashew nuts in the first 6 months of 2019 to 707,000 tons, worth over 1 billion USD, up by 34.8 per cent in volume but down by 9.3 per cent in value compared to the same period last year.
According to preliminary statistics figures from Vietnam General Department of Customs, in June of 2019, the whole country imported 239,000 tons of cashew nuts, worth of 295.8 million USD, up by 26.6 per cent in volume and 16.4 per cent in value compared to May of 2019, bringing the total exports of cashew nuts in the first 6 months of 2019 to 707,800 tons, worth of over USD 1 billion USD, up by 34.8 per cent in volume but down by 9.3 per cent in value compared to same period of 2018.
Vietnam imported cashew nuts mainly from markets such as Ivory Coast, Cambodia and Indonesia. The country’s imports of cashew nuts from Ivory Coast reached 214,600 tons, worth of 305.9 million USD, up by 67.1 per cent in volume and by 12.56 per cent in value over the first 6 months of 2018. In June of 2019 alone, Vietnam also imported from this market 111,000 tons of cashew nuts, worth of 141.2 million USD, up by 70.23 per cent in volume and 59.71 per cent in value compared to May of 2019.
Cambodia market ranked second with 170,500 tons, worth of 287 million USD, up by 68.82 per cent in volume and 41.04 per cent in value over the same period last year.
Notably, compared to the first 6 months of 2018, Vietnam also imported cashew nuts from several other markets such as Ghana, Nigeria, Republic of Tanzania and Singapore. Ghana was leading the list with 122,500 tons; Nigeria - 67,000 tons; Indonesia - 16,200 tons; Tanzania - 180 tons and Singapore - 105 tons.
