Exports and imports in first 7 months: leading items

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s total import and export revenue in the first 7 months of this year reached US$266.17 billion, increased by 13.5 per cent or $31.74 billion compared with the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

By the end of July, the country’s total export turnover reached $134.51 billion, increased by 16 per cent or $18.6 billion compared with the same period of 2017.

Meanwhile, the import value reached $131.66 billion in the first 7 months of this year, increased by 11.1 per cent or $13.14 billion compared with the same period of 2017.

The leading export items in the first 7 months were:
Telephones and components: Vietnam exported $3.86 billion worth of telephones and components in July and $26.48 billion in the first seven months of this year, up by 17.4 per cent compared with the same period of 2017.
The main export markets of telephones and components in the period were EU (28 countries) with $7.79 billion, up by 16.5 per cent year – on – year; China with $2.86 billion, up by 3.5 times; The U.S - $2.74 billion, up by 22.4 per cent; South Korea - $2.63 billion, up by 29.4 per cent; and the U.A.E - $2.45 billion, up by 9.4 per cent.

Textiles and garments: The country’s export of textiles and garments hit $2.87 billion in July, up by 4.6 per cent month – on – month. The figure brought the country’s total export of textiles and garments in the first seven months of this year to $16.52 billion, up by 16 per cent year – on - year.
In the first seven months of this year, the country’s exports of textiles and garments to the U.S reached $7.69 billion, up by 11.3 per cent; to the EU –$2.32 billion, up by 11.9 per cent; to Japan –$2.05 billion, up by 24.2 per cent; and to South Korea - $1.57 billion, up by 25.1 per cent over the same period last year.

Computers, electronic products and components: Vietnam earned $2.5 billion from export of computers, electronic products and components in July of 2018, up by 0.3 per cent compared with the previous month. The figure brought the country’s total exports of computers, electronics and components in the first seven months of this year to $15.94 billion, increased by 16.2 per cent compared with the same months of 2017.
The major export markets of computers, electronic products and components in the period were China with $4.33 billion, up by 28.4 per cent year – on – year; the E.U (28 countries) – nearly $3 billion, up by 19.9 per cent; South Korea - $1.55 billion, up by 56.8 per cent; the U.S - $1.54 billion, down by 8.5 per cent.

Machines, equipment, tools and spare parts: : The country earned nearly $1.3 billion from exports of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts in July and $9.21 billion in the first seven months of this year, up by 30.3 per cent over the same period last year.
The main export markets of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts in the first seven months of this year were the U.S with $1.65 billion, up by 16.4 per cent year – on – year; to the EU (28 countries) – $1.23 billion, up by 27.9 per cent; to India - $1.24 billion, up by 6.9 times; and to Japan - $1.03 billion, up by 5.4 per cent compared with the same period of 2017.

Footwear of all kinds: The export of footwear of all kinds reached $1.44 billion in July and $9.13 billion in the first seven months of this year, up by 9.4 per cent year – on - year.
The country’s top export markets of footwear of all kinds in the first seven months of this year were the U.S with $3.28 billion, up by 13.5 per cent year – on – year; the E.U (28 countries) - $2.69 million, up by 0.2 per cent; China –$812 million, up by 30.7 per cent.

Wood and furniture: The country’s exports of wood and furniture hit $730 million in July, down by 2.6 per cent month – on – month. The figure brought the country’s total export of wood and furniture in the first seven months of this year to $4.86 billion, up by 13.7 per cent year – on - year.
In the first seven months, the country’s exports of wood and furniture to the U.S reached $2.03 billion, up by 14 per cent; to China - $631 million, up by 1.6 per cent; and to Japan - $620 million, up by 6.1 per cent year – on - year.

Seafood: The country’s export of seafood hit $765 million in July, up by 0.2 per cent month – on – month. The figure brought the country’s total export of seafood in the first seven months of this year to $4.73 billion, up by 8.5 per cent year – on - year.
In the first seven months of this year, the country’s export of seafood to EU (28 countries) reached $835 million, up by 15.8 per cent; the U.S – $793 million, down by 0.8 per cent; to Japan – $734 million, up by 4.5 per cent; and China - $556 million, up by 2.8 per cent over the same period last year.

Means of transport and spare parts: The country’s exports of means of transport and spare parts hit $627 million in July, up by 2.3 per cent month – on – month. The figure brought the country’s total export of means of transport and spare parts in the first seven months of this year to $4.66 billion, up by 15.9 per cent year – on - year.
In the first seven months, the country’s export of means of transport and spare parts to Japan reached $1.37 billion, up by 14.6 per cent; to the U.S - $734 million, up by 12 per cent; and to Singapore - $258 million, up by 84.2 per cent over the same period last year.

Iron and steel of all kinds: Vietnam’s exports of iron and steel of all kinds hit 598,000 tons worth of $430 million in July, up by 32.1 per cent in quantity and 22.9 per cent in value compared with the previous month. The figure of the first seven months of this year was 3.41 million tons worth of $2.53 million, up by 40.6 per cent in quantity and 56.6 per cent in value year – on - year.
The major export markets of iron and steel of all kinds in the first seven months of this year were Cambodia with 718,000 tons, up by 49.1 per cent; the U.S – 533,000 tons, up by 73.6 per cent; Indonesia – 373,000 tons, up by 22.3 per cent; Malaysia – 392,000 tons, up by 88.5 per cent; and EU (28 countries) – 374,000 tons, up by 96.2 per cent over the same period last year.

Cameras, camcorders and components: The export of cameras, camcorders and components reached $292 million in July and $2.36 billion in the first seven months of this year, up by 34.9 per cent year – on - year.
The country’s top export markets of cameras, camcorders and components in the first seven months of this year were China with $1.06 billion, up by 16.3 per cent year – on – year; Hong Kong (CN) - $646 million, up by 34.2 per cent; and South Korea –$213 million, up by 3.5 times.

The leading import items in first seven months of 2018 were:
Computers, electronics and components: Vietnam spent over $3.38 billion for imports of computers, electronic products and components in July of 2018 and $23.15 billion in the first seven months of 2018, up by 13.9 per cent compared with the same period of 2017.
The major import markets of computers, electronic products and components in the first seven months of this year were South Korea with $9.79 billion, up by 18.4 per cent year – on – year; China - $3.95 billion, up by 3.4 per cent; Japan - $ 2.12 billion, up by 30.5 per cent.

Machines, equipment, tools and spare parts: : The country imported $2.94 billion worth of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts in July and $18.87 billion in the first seven months of this year, down by 6.4 per cent year – on - year.
The main import markets of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts in the first seven months of this year were China with $6.51 billion, up by 4.1 per cent year – on – year; South Korea – $3.69 billion, down by 37 per cent; and Japan - $2.52 billion, up by 0.2 per cent over the same period of 2017.

Telephones and components: Vietnam imported over $1.4 billion worth of telephones and components in July and $7.39 billion in the first seven months of this year, down by 0.6 per cent compared with the same period of 2017.
The main import markets of telephones and components in the period were China with $4.33 billion, up by 11.3 per cent year – on – year; and South Korea - $2.58 billion, down by 6.8 per cent.

Fabrics of all kinds: Vietnam’s imports of fabrics of all kinds reached $1.13 billion in July and $7.39 billion in the first seven months of this year, increased by 14.4 per cent over the same period of 2017.
The major import markets of fabrics of all kinds in the first seven months of this year were China with $4.05 billion, up by 18.2 per cent; South Korea - $1.3 million, up by 9 per cent; and Taiwan - $932 million, up by 3 per cent; and Japan - $433 million, up by 16.1 per cent.

Iron and steel of all kinds: The country imported 1.18 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds worth of $879 million in July and 8.05 million tons worth of $5.8 billion in the first seven months of this year, down by 10.4 per cent in quantity but up by 10.4 per cent in value year – on - year.
In the first seven months of this year, the country imported 3.88 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds worth of over $2.77 billion from China, down by 13.3 per cent in quantity but up by 10.5 per cent in value year – on - year; from Japan – 1.29 million tons worth of $909 million, down by 1 per cent in quantity but up by 15.6 per cent in value.

Petroleum of all kinds: The imports of petroleum of all kinds totaled 820,000 tons worth of $558 million in July, decreased sharply by 41.7 per cent in quantity and 41.8 per cent in value over the previous month.
The figure brought the country’s total petroleum imports in the first seven months of this year to 7.8 million tons worth of $5.2 billion, up by 3.9 per cent in quantity and 31.6 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.
The country’s top import markets of petroleum of all kinds the first seven months of this year were Malaysia with 2.2 million tons, up by 50.5 per cent year – on – year; South Korea – 1.97 million tons, up by 11.6 per cent. Especially, the imports of petroleum from Singapore reached only 1.81 million tons, down by 40.5 per cent over the same period last year.

Plastics: The imports of plastics totaled 432,000 tons worth of $720 million in July, down by 4.3 per cent in quantity and 3.4 per cent in value over the previous month. The figure brought the country’s total imports of plastics in the first seven months of this year to 3.09 million tons worth of $5.04 billion, up by 8.4 per cent in quantity and by 18 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.
The country’s top import markets of plastics in the first seven months of this year were South Korea with 535,000 tons worth of $925 million, up by 4.1 per cent in quantity and 11.6 per cent in value year – on – year; the U.A.E – 578,000 tons worth of $740 million, up by 4.5 per cent in quantity and 16.8 per cent in value; and Taiwan – 426,000 tons worth of $707 million, up by 11 per cent in quantity and 18.6 per cent in value.

Textile, garment, leather and footwear materials: The country’s imports of textile, garment, leather and footwear materials reached $502 million in July and $3.32 billion in the first seven months of this year, up by 3.7 per cent over the same period last year.
The major import markets of textile, garment, leather and footwear materials the first seven months of this year were China with the import value of $1.24 billion, up by 3.9 per cent; South Korea - $456 million, down by 1.6 per cent; Taiwan (CN) - $266 million, down by 9.3 per cent year – on – year.

Plastic products: The imports of plastic products reached $496 million in July and totaled $3.28 billion in the first seven months of this year, up by 11.1 per cent year – on - year.
The country’s top import markets of plastic products in the first seven months of this year were China with $1.16 billion, up by 16.8 per cent year – on – year; South Korea – $975 million, up by 9.1 per cent; and Japan – $480 million, up by 6.9 per cent.

Chemicals: The imports of chemicals reached $443 million in July and totaled $2.9 billion in the first seven months of this year, up by 26.7 per cent year – on - year.
The country’s top import markets of plastic products in the first seven months of this year were China with $906 billion, up by 26.4 per cent year – on – year; Taiwan – $378 million, up by 35.5 per cent; and South Korea – $245 million, up by 27.7 per cent.
