Exports of leading items: growth maintained

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of several leading items such as telephones and components; computers, electronics and components; textiles and garments; and footwear of all kinds still maintained its growth in the first five months of this year, according to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

The exports of telephones and components increased by nearly 19 per cent
Telephones and components were the leading export item of Vietnam in the first five months of this year with the export turnover of $ 19.3 billion, up by 18.7 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In May only, the country’s exports of telephones and components reached $3.2 billion, down by 7.4 per cent month – on – month.

The U.S was the country’s biggest export market of telephones and components in the first five months of this year with the export turnover of $1.9 billion, up by 6.63 per cent year – on – year. It was followed by South Korea with $1.8 billion, up by 33.55 per cent; the U.A.E - $1.87 billion; China - $1.83 billion; and Austria - $1.75 billion.

Especially, the exports of telephones and components to China increased sharply by 3.5 times or 245.97 per cent year – on – year.
However, the exports of telephones and components to Mexico decreased sharply by 93.84 per cent to $ 25.8 million; while the exports to Italy decreased by 87.82 per cent to $ 75.2 million; and to Cambodia – up by 80.34 per cent to $ 16.6 million.

Exports of computers, electronics showed 16.7% growth
Vietnam earned US$10.95 billion from exports of computers, electronics and components in the first five months of this year, increased by 16.7 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In May, the country’s exports of computers, electronics and components reached $2.46 billion, up by 14.6 per cent over the previous month and by 32.3 per cent over the same month of 2017.
China was the country’s biggest export market of computers, electronics and components in the period with the export turnover of $3.07 billion, up by 34.8 per cent year – on – year.

It was followed by South Korea with $1.12 billion, up by 54.6 per cent; the U.S - $1.04 billion, down by 1.1 per cent; the Netherlands - $860.29 million, up by 8.8 per cent; and Hong Kong - $827.88 million, up by 22.6 per cent.

The exports of computers, electronics and components to EU reached $ 1.8 billion in the period, up by 16 per cent year – on – year while the exports to the South East Asian countries reached $830.31 million, down by 29.6 per cent.

In the first five months of this year, the country’s exports of computers, electronics and components to Nigeria rocketed by 809.8 per cent to $0.89 million; while the exports to Poland – up by 671.2 per cent to $212.26 million; to Hungary – up by 167 per cent to $80 million; to Taiwan – up by 100.6 per cent to $173.67 million; to Panama – up by 93.6 per cent to $15.31 million; and to Mexico – up by 88.7 per cent to $357.82 million.

However, the exports of computers, electronics and components to Romania decreased by 72.44 per cent to $0.13 million; to Italy – down by 62 per cent to $40.54 million; to Malaysia – down by 60.8 per cent to $ 235.03 million.

Textile and garment exports totaled nearly US$ 11 billion in five months, increased by over 16 per cent
Vietnam’s exports of textiles and garments increased by 16.2 per cent year – on – year in the first five months of this year to over US$10.91 billion, accounted of 11.2 per cent of the country’s total export turnover, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In the first five months of this year, the country’s exports of textiles and garments to the U.S increased by 12.4 per cent to $5.15 billion; to the EU – up by 12.1 per cent to $1.43 billion; to Japan – up by 22.6 per cent to $1.39 billion; and to South Korea – up by 22 per cent to $1.09 billion.

Especially, in the period, the exports of textiles and garments to Finland increased sharply by 123 per cent over the same period last year to $5.96 million; to Angola – up by 121 per cent to $6.57 million; to Turkey – up by 96.8 per cent to $ 19.23 million; to Poland – up by 69.3 per cent to $ 23.43 million; to Myanmar – up by 65.9 per cent to $9.19 million; to Egypt – up by 65.2 per cent to $ 2.33 million; and to
Hungary – up by 60.4 per cent to $1.84 million.

In the first five months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of textiles and garments to CPTPP countries accounted for 17.1 per cent of the total with $1.87 billion. Of the figure, the exports to Japan increased by 22.6 per cent to $1.39 million; to Singapore – up by 22 per cent to $39.16 million; to Canada – up by 17.4 per cent to $230.29 million; to Australia – up by 16 per cent to $79.41 million.

Footwear exports increased by over 10 per cent
Vietnam’s exports of footwear totaled US$6.24 billion in the first five months of this year, increased by 10.4 per cent over the same period last year showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

The U.S was the country’s biggest footwear export market of Vietnam in the period with the export turnover of $2.31 billion, up by 15.9 per cent year – on – year; and accounted for 37 per cent of the total.
China ranked second with $533.52 million, up by 27.5 per cent; Germany - $381.79 million, down by 3.1 per cent; Belgium - $365.56 million, down by 0.1 per cent.

In the first five months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of footwear of all kinds to India increased sharply by 80 per cent to $39.19 million; to Portugal – up by 68.1 per cent to $1.25 million; to Argentina – up by 51.9 per cent to $43.8 million; and to Finland – up by 41.1 per cent to $8.71 million.
However, the exports of footwear to the U.A.E decreased by 28.9 per cent to $38.04 million; to Denmark – down by 28.6 per cent to $ 13.73 million; to Austria – down by 20.3 per cent to $11.3 million; and to New Zealand – down by 10.7 per cent to $10.39 million.
