Imports of phamaceuticals and materials in first five months

Imports of pharmaceuticals reached US$ 1.1 billion
Vietnam’s imports of pharmaceuticals increased slightly by 6.4 per cent year – on – year in the first five months of this year to US$ 1.1 billion, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In May, the country imported $ 318.5 million worth of pharmaceuticals, up by 44.7 per cent over the previous month.
In the first five months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of pharmaceuticals from EU accounted for 52.1 per cent of the total while the imports from the South East Asian countries – accounted for 4.3 per cent; and others – 43.4 per cent.
France was the country’s biggest pharmaceutical import market of Vietnam in the period with the import value of $ 134.6 million, accounted for 11.7 per cent of the total and increased by 11.95 per cent of the total.
It was followed by Germany with $ 120.8 million, down by 5.49 per cent; and then India, Switzerland, Italy and South Korea.
In the first five months of this year, the country’s imports of pharmaceuticals from Canada and Singapore increased sharply by 115.43 per cent and 105.95 per cent to $ 7.8 million and $ 3.1 million, respectively year – on – year.
However, the imports of pharmaceuticals from Malaysia decreased sharply by 74.26 per cent.
Over US$ 172 million worth of pharmaceutical materials imported
Vietnam’s imports of pharmaceutical materials in the first five months of this year increased slightly by 9.23 per cent over the same period last year to US$ 172.4 million showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In May, the country’s imports of pharmaceutical materials increased sharply by 44.7 per cent over the previous month to $ 38.4 million.
China was the biggest import market, accounted for over 60 per cent of the total imports of pharmaceutical materials of Vietnam with the import value of $ 107.4 million, up by 16.09 per cent year – on – year.
It was followed by India with $ 30.8 million, down by 9.68 per cent; and then Spain – $ 6 million, up by 19.9 per cent.
In the first five months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of pharmaceutical materials from South Korea increased sharply by over 2 times or 124.92 per cent to $ 2.5 million; while the imports from Thailand increased by 98.69 per cent to $ 847,000.
