Imports of animal feed and materials slightly increased in first 4 months

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam imported US$ 350 million worth of animal feed and materials in April, increased slightly by 2.22 per cent over the previous month and by 31.85 per cent over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In the first four months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina reached over $ 161 million in April, increased sharply by 58.82 per cent compared with the previous month and by 35.06 per cent over the same month of last year.

The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina in the first four months of this year to over $ 484 million, down by 8.6 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 38.1 per cent of the total.

It was followed by the U.S with over $ 51 million in April, down by 36.4 per cent month – on – month but up by 89.22 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from the U.S in the first four months of this year to over $ 198 million, up by 28.6 per cent year – on – year.

Meanwhile, the imports animal feed and materials from Brazil reached over $ 29 million in April, down by 5.33 per cent month – on – month and up by 931.1 per cent year – on – year. The total imports of animal feed and materials from Brazil in the first four months of this year reached over $ 109 million, rocketed by 796.83 per cent year – on – year.  

Besides, the country also imported animal feed and materials from India, China, Thailand, Indonesia and the U.A.E with the import value of $ 76 million; $ 72 million; $ 37 million; $ 35 million and $ 27 million, respectively.

In the first four months of this year, Vietnam spent nearly $ 1.3 billion on importing animal feed and materials, up by 7.19 per cent over the same period last year.

In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Brazil reached $ 109 million, rocketed by 796.83 per cent; from Belgium - $ 12 million, up by 169.88 per cent; from Mexico – over $ 1.8 million, up by 82.6 per cent; and South Korea – over $ 14 million, up by 46.92 per cent year – on – year.

Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at 533,000 tons worth of $ 119 million in April and over 1.7 million tons worth of $ 404 million in the first 4 months of this year, decreased by 1.28 per cent in quantity but increased by 13.86 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
The leading wheat import markets in the first 4 months of this year were Russia with the market share of 43 per cent; Australia – 31 per cent; Canada – 9 per cent; the U.S – 6 per cent and Brazil – 4 per cent of the total.

In the first 4 months of this year, the imports of wheat from Russia increased by 13 times in quantity and over 14 times in value, while the imports from the U.S increased by 26 times in quantity and over 25 times in value. Meanwhile, the imports from Canada decreased sharply year – on - year.

Soybean: 
Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 171,000 tons worth of over $ 75 million in April and over 562,000 tons worth of $ 242 million in the first 4 months of this year, decreased by 7.79 per cent in quantity and 10.26 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.

Corn:
 The imports of corn reached 1.1 million tons worth of $ 225million in April and 3 million tons worth of $ 596 million in the first 4 months of this year, increased by 34.21 per cent in quantity and 28.81 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
Argentina and Brazil were the leading soybean import markets of Vietnam in the first 4 months of this year with 69.2 per cent and 15.8 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
Especially, in the first 4 months of this year, the imports of corn from Thailand decreased sharply, both in quantity and in value compared with the same period last year.
