Imports of animal feed and materials fell slightly in 2 months

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam imported US$ 244 million worth of animal feed and materials in February, decreased by 27.37 per cent over the previous month and by 30.62 per cent over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials in the first 2 months of this year to $ 581 million, down by 4.93 per cent year - on - year. 

In the first two months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials from Mexico reached over $ 1 million, rocketed by 814 per cent compared with the same period last year; from Brazil – over $ 49 million, up by 677.21 per cent; from Belgium – over $ 6 million, up by 121.4 per cent; and from India – over $ 53 million, up by 105.36 per cent.

Argentina was the country’s biggest import market of animal feed and materials in February with $ 94 million, down by 26.5 per cent over the previous month and by 50.47 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the total imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina in the first two months of this year to over $ 222 million, down by 22.66 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 38.3 per cent of the total.

The U.S followed with over $ 30 million in February and nearly $ 66 million in the first two months.
Meanwhile, the imports of animal feed and materials from Brazil reached over $ 21 million in February and over $ 49 million in the first two months of this year, rocketed by 677.21 per cent year – on – year.

Besides, Vietnam also imported animal feed and materials from India, China, Indonesia, the U.A.E and Thailand with the import value of $ 53 million; $ 37 million; $ 20 million; $ 12 million and $ 12 million, respectively.

Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at 111,000 tons worth of $ 25 million in February and 781,000 tons worth of $ 185 million in the first two months of this year, increased by 31.1 per cent in quantity and 52.82 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.

The leading wheat import markets in the first two months of this year were Russia with the market share of 40 per cent; Australia – 29 per cent; Canada – 16 per cent; the U.S – 9 per cent and Brazil – 6 per cent.

In the first two months of this year, the imports of wheat from Brazil increased by 10 times in quantity and over 2 times in value, while the imports from the U.S increased by over 11 times in quantity and over 2 times in value. Meanwhile, the imports from Australia decreased by nearly 3 per cent.

Soybean: 
Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 97,000 tons worth of $ 40 million in February and over 276,000 tons worth of $ 116 million in the first 2 months of this year, increased by 31.45 per cent in quantity and 25.91 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.

Corn:
 The imports of corn reached 537,000 tons worth of $ 104 million in February and 1.4 million tons worth of $ 282 million in the first two months of this year, increased by 22.22 per cent in quantity and 15.65 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.

Argentina and Brazil were the leading soybean import markets of Vietnam in the first two months of this year with 69 per cent and 29 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
Especially, in the first two months of this year, the imports of corn from Thailand increased by 23 times in quantity and 28 times in value year – on – year.
