Imports of animal feed and materials increased sharply in January

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam spent US$ 336 million on importing animal feed and materials in the first month of this year, increased sharply by 48.02 per cent over the previous month and by 30.2 per cent over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In January, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Brazil reached $ 27 million, rocketed by 801.41 per cent; while the imports from Mexico reached 576,000, up by 420.26 per cent; Belgium – nearly $ 4 million, up by 228.79 per cent; and Germany – nearly $ 2 million, up by 222.37 per cent.

Argentina was the country’s biggest import market of animal feed and materials in January with $ 128 million, up by 48.48 per cent over the previous month and by 30.83 per cent over the same month of last year. It was followed by the U.S with over $ 35 million, up by 15.52 per cent month – on – month and down by 43.03 per cent year – on – year.

The other leading import markets of animal feed and materials were India, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Thailand and the U.A.E with the import value of $ 33 million; $ 27 million; $ 25 million; $ 13 million; $ 6.7 million; and $ 6.4 million.

Wheat: Vietnam imported 727,000 tons of wheat worth of $ 171 million in January of this year, increased sharply by 218.5 per cent in quantity and 255 per cent in value compared with the same month of 2017. The leading import markets of wheat in January were Russia – accounted for 49 per cent; Australia – 24%; Canada – 14 per cent; Brazil – 4% and the U.S – 9%.

Soybean:
 The imports of soybean were at 42,000 tons worth of $ 19 million, down by 55.1 per cent in quantity and 54.65 per cent in value compared with the same month of 2017.

Corn: 
The imports of corn were estimated at 959,000 tons worth of $ 179 million, up by 62.46 per cent in quantity and 54.85 per cent in value compared with January of 2017.
Argentina and Brazil were the two leading import markets in January with the market shares of 63 per cent and 36 per cent, respectively. Especially, the imports of corn from Thailand increased by 1.5 times in quantity and 2 times in value year – on – year in January.
