Farm products exports: increased ceaselessly

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of leading farm products still increased in the first ten months of this year.

The country’s exports of major farm-forestry-seafood products were estimated at $ 15.6 billion in the first ten months of this year, up by 15.2 per cent year – on – year, according to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The exports of those major items were as followed:

Rice:
Vietnam exported 430,000 tons of rice valued at $ 206 million in October, and 5.05 million tons worth of $ 2.25 billion in the first ten months of this year, up by 22 per cent in quantity and by 21.1 per cent in value year – on – year.

The average rice export price in the first 9 months of 2015 was $ 442.3 per ton, down by 1.6 per cent compared with the same period of 2016.

China was still the country’s biggest rice export market in the first 9 months of 2017 with 39.3 per cent of the total market share. In the first nine months, the country’s export of rice to China increased by 32.8 per cent in quantity and 31.1 per cent in value year – on – year to nearly 1.8 million tons worth of $ 802.9 million. 

The exports of rice to the Philippines were up by 46.4 per cent in quantity and 36.5 per cent in value to 494,500 tons worth of $ 196.4 million; that to Malaysia – up by 97.1 per cent in quantity and 76.6 per cent in value. However, the exports of rice to Hong Kong and Ghana fell by 44.3 per cent and 19.4 per cent, respectively.

Coffee:
Vietnam’s export of coffee was estimated at 71,000 tons worth of $ 164 million in October and 1.17 million tons worth of $ 2.69 billion in the first ten months of this year, down by 22.7 per cent in quantity and by 2.5 per cent in value year – on – year. 
The average coffee export price in the first 9 months of 2017 was at $ 2,286.7 per ton, up by 27.5 per cent over the same period of 2016.

Germany and the U.S were the country’s biggest coffee export markets in the first ten months of 2017 with the market shares of 14.6 per cent and 13.1 per cent, respectively.
In the first nine months of the year, the country’s exports of coffee to Italy, India and Belgium increased by 15.2 per cent; 15.2 per cent and 14.5 per cent, respectively year – on - year.

Tea:
Vietnam’s exports of tea were estimated at 12,000 tons worth of $ 20 million in October and 114,000 tons worth of $ 184 million in the first ten months of this year, up by 10.7 per cent in quantity and 8.5 per cent in value year – on – year. 
The average tea export price in the first 10 months of 2017 was at $ 1, 596, 7 per ton, down by 0.6 per cent over the same period of 2016.

Pakistan was the country’s biggest tea export market in the reviewed period with the market share of 28.1 per cent. The export of tea to Pakistan decreased by 14.4 per cent in quantity and by 10.9 per cent in value year – on – year.

In the first nine months of this year, the country’s exports of tea to the U.A.E increased sharply by 2.43 times; to Taiwan – up by 63.7 per cent; to India – up by 40.8 per cent and to Saudi Arabia – up by 38.5 per cent.

Cashew nuts:
The export of cashew nuts was at 31,000 tons worth of $ 309 million in October and 289,000 tons worth of $ 2.87 billion in the first ten months of this year, down by 0.4 per cent in quantity but up by 23.1 per cent in value over the same period of 2016.

The average cashew export price in the first 9 months of this year was at $ 9,908.5 per ton, up by 25.1 per cent year – on – year. The U.S, the Netherlands and China were the three biggest cashew export markets of Vietnam, accounted for 36.4 per cent; 15.9 per cent and 11.5 per cent of the total, respectively. 

In the first nine months, the country’s export of cashew nuts to Russia increased sharply by 52.9 per cent; that to the Netherlands – up by 45.2 per cent; to the U.S – up by 34.7 per cent; to Thailand – up by 34 per cent; to the U.K – up by 23.6 per cent; to Israel – up by 22.1 per cent; and to China – up by 9.1 per cent.

Pepper:
The exports of pepper were at 11,000 tons worth of $ 49 million in October and 192,000 tons worth of $ 1.02 billion in the first ten months of this year, up by 20.7 per cent in quantity but down by 21 per cent in value over the same period of 2016.

The average pepper export price in the first 9 months of this year was at $ 5,340 per ton, down by 34.3 per cent year – on – year. The U.S, India and the U.A.E were the three biggest cashew export markets of Vietnam, accounted for 19.3 per cent; 6.8 per cent and 6 per cent of the total market share, respectively. 

Fruit and vegetables:
Vietnam’s exports of fruit and vegetables were estimated at $ 209 million in October and $ 2.84 billion in the first ten months of this year, up by 41.2 per cent over the same period last year.

China, Japan, the U.S and South Korea were the country’s top export markets of fruit and vegetables with the market shares of 76 per cent; 3.6 per cent; 2.9 per cent; and 2.6 per cent, respectively.

In the first 9 months of this year, the country’s exports of fruit and vegetables to Japan increased sharply by 66.1 per cent; to the U.A.E – up by 58 per cent; and to China – up by 53.1 per cent.

Cassava and products:
The exports of cassava and products were at 212,000 tons worth of $ 60 million in October and 3.11 million tons worth of $ 788 million in the first ten months of this year, up by 3.3 per cent in quantity but down by 3.6 per cent in value over the same period of 2016.

China was still leading in the list of the country's major export markets of cassava and products of Vietnam, accounted for 86.7 per cent of the total market share in the first 9 months of this year, up by 5.6 per cent in quantity but down by 1.8 per cent in value year – on - year. 

The country’s exports of cassava and products to South Korea and Taiwan decreased by 21.7 per cent and 11.4 per cent year – on – year in the first nine months of 2017.
 
Seafood exports reached $ 6.84 billion in 10 months

Vietnam exported nearly US$ 6.84 billion worth of seafood in the first ten months of this year, increased by 19.5 per cent over the same period of 2016, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

EU was the country’s biggest seafood export markets in the period, with the export turnover of $ 1.17 billion, up by 22 per cent year – on – year; while the exports to the Southeast Asian countries reached $ 492.43 million, up by 17 per cent.

The U.S was the country’s biggest seafood export market of Vietnam in the first ten months of this year with the export turnover of $ 1.18 billion, slightly decreased by 1.7 per cent over the same period last year and accounted for 17.3 per cent of the total.

Japan ranked second with $ 1.07 billion, up by 22 per cent; and then China - $ 908.88 million, up by 67.9 per cent and South Korea - $ 625.19 million, up by 29.5 per cent.
In the first ten months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of seafood to Denmark increased sharply by 104 per cent to $ 57.79 million; while the exports to Israel, Brazil and Turkey increased by 70 per cent; 71 per cent and 65 per cent, respectively over the same period of 2016.
 
Imports of seafood also increased sharply in ten months

Vietnam imported US$ 1.15 billion worth of goods in the first ten months of this year, increased by 30.7 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

India was leading the list of 19 major seafood import markets of Vietnam in the first ten months of this year with the import value of $ 305 million, accounted for 26.5 per cent of the total, and increased by 39.5 per cent year – on – year. It was followed by China with $ 92.88 million, up by 77.5 per cent; Norway - $ 90.89 million, up by 10 per cent; and Taiwan - $ 85.17 million, down by 1.4 per cent. 

The imports of seafood from the South East Asian countries accounted for only 6.5 per cent of the total with$ 74.84 million, up by 11.7 per cent; while the imports from EU reached $ 35.29 million, down by 14.7 per cent.

In the first ten months of this year, the imports of seafood from almost all markets saw growth, but the imports from Britain decreased by 42.3 per cent to $ 10.59 million; from the Philippines – down by 29.8 per cent to $ 4.61 million; from Denmark – down by 2 per cent to $ 16.68 million; and from Taiwan – down by 1.4 per cent to $ 85.17 million.

In the period, the country’s imports of seafood from Myanmar increased sharply by 187 per cent year – on – year to $ 3.21 million; from the U.S – up by 62.2 per cent to $ 32.12 million; from China – up by 77.5 per cent to $ 93.88 million; from Singapore – up by 74 per cent to $ 8.05 million; from Chile – up by 100.5 per cent to $ 38.03 million.
