In the first six months of this year, Vietnam exported cell phones and accessories to 37 major markets with the export turnover of nearly US$ 19.5 billion, up by 15 per cent over the same period of 2016, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Cell phones and accessories were the country’s leading export item, accounted for 20 per cent of the total export turnover in the period.

The U.S was the country’s biggest export market of cell phones and accessories with the export turnover of $ 2.05 billon, accounted for 10.5 per cent of the total and slightly decreased by 0.95 per cent year – on – year.

It was followed by the U.A.E with $ 1.92 billion, down by 13.7 per cent; South Korea - $ 1.71 billion, up by 28 per cent; Austria - $ 1.11 billion, up by 16.3 per cent; and Hong Kong - $ 1.11 billion, up by 45 per cent. 

In the first 6 months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of cell phones and accessories to Brazil increased sharply by 102 per cent to $ 408.29 million; to Colombia – up by 83 per cent to $ 152.6 million; to Japan – up by 187.5 per cent to $ 466.12 million; and to Taiwan – up by 65 per cent to $ 181.23 million.

However, the exports of cell phones and accessories to South Africa decreased sharply by 40 per cent to only $ 172 million while the exports to the U.A.E decreased by nearly 14 per cent to $ 1.92 billion.
