Rice exports fell in first 4 months
Thursday, May 18,2017AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of rice in April decreased slightly by 2 per cent in quantity and increased slightly by 0.3 per cent in value over the previous month to 539,492 tons worth of US$ 252.3 million.
The figure brought the country’s total rice exports in the first four months of this year to 1.8 million tons worth of US$ 792.7 million, down by 11.2 per cent both in quantity and in value over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
China was the country’s biggest rice export market in the first four months of this year with 815,418 tons worth of $ 376.2 million, up by 16 per cent in quantity and in value year – on – year and accounted for 47 per cent of the total.
It was followed by the Philippines with 236,612 tons worth of $ 90.1 million, up by 24 per cent in quantity and 11 per cent in value; Malaysia – 83,327 tons worth of $ 33.8 million; Ivory Coast – 74,905 tons worth of $ 34.1 million; Ghana – 65,507 tons worth of $ 33.2 million.
In the first four months of this year, the country’s exports of rice to Russia increased sharply by 29 folds in quantity and 25 folds in value; to Ukraine – up by 19 folds in quantity and 15 folds in value; to Chile – up by 24 folds in quantity and 15 folds in value; to Senegal – up by 11 times in both quantity and value.
However, the exports of rice to Poland, Ghana, Hong Kong and Taiwan decreased by 45-50 per cent in value year – on – year.
