Main items imported in February and first 2 months

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s imports of goods in the first two months of this year increased sharply by 23.3 per cent over the same period last year.

The imports of top ten items reached $ 18.22 billion, accounted for 64.5 per cent of the total.
Machines, equipment and spare parts were leading the list with 17.1 per cent of the total. It was followed by computers, electronics and components with 16.3 per cent; cell phones and accessories – 6.3 per cent.
Machines, equipment and spare parts: The imports of machines, equipment, and spare parts reached $ 2.51 billion in February and $ 4.82 billion in the first two months of this year, up by 30.8 per cent year – on – year.
The major import markets of machines, equipment and spare parts in the first two months of the year were China with $ 1.5 billion, up by 26.7 per cent compared with the same period last year; South Korea – over $ 1.31 billion, up by 83.5 per cent; and Japan - $ 676 million, up by 15.5 per cent.
Computers, electronics and components: Vietnam’s imports of computers, electronics and components hit $ 2.49 billion in February, up by 16.9 per cent over the previous month. The figure brought the country’s total imports of machines, equipment and spare parts in the first two months of this year to over $ 4.61 billion.
The country’s major import markets of computers, electronics and components in the first two months of this year were South Korea with $ 1.52 billion, up by 24.5 per cent year – on – year; China - $ 983 million, up by 29.6 per cent; and Taiwan - $ 492 million, up by 15.6 per cent.
Cell phones and accessories: Vietnam’s imports of cell phones and accessories reached $ 955 million in February, up by 14.5 per cent month – on – month. The figure of the first two months of this year was at $ 1.79 billion, up by 18.6 per cent over the same period last year.
Vietnam imported cell phones and accessories mostly from China - $ 1.01 billion, up by 4.6 per cent year – on – year; and South Korea - $ 583 million, up by 26 per cent.
Iron and steel of all kinds: Vietnam’s imports of iron and steel of all kinds in reached 1.51 million tons worth of $ 832 million in February, up by 22.9 per cent in quantity and 25.3 per cent in value over the previous month. The figure of the first two months of this year was nearly 2.74 million tons worth of over $ 1.49 billion, up by 0.2 per cent in quantity and 49.3 per cent in value year – on – year. 
In the first 2 months of this year, the country imported iron and steel of all kinds mostly from China with over 1.53 million tons worth of $ 786 million, up by 7.6 per cent in quantity and 61.8 per cent in value over the same period last year; South Korea – 304,000 tons worth of $ 202 million, up by 17.8 per cent in quantity and 57.3 per cent in value; from Japan – 334,000 tons worth of $ 197 million, down by 1.2 per cent in quantity and 36.8 per cent in value.
Cloth of all kinds: Vietnam imported $ 692 million worth of cloth in February and $ 1.35 billion worth of cloth in the first 2 months of this year, up by 3.5 per cent over the same period of 2016.
The major import markets of cloth of all kinds were China with $ 671 million, up by 0.2 per cent year – on – year; South Korea - $ 276 million, up by 11.3 per cent; Taiwan - $ 198 million, up by 2.4 per cent.
Plastics: Vietnam’s imports of plastics reached 404,000 tons worth of $ 586 million in February, up by 31.3 per cent in quantity and 30.9 per cent in value compared with the previous month. The figure brought the country’s total imports of plastics in the first two months of this year to 712,000 tons worth of over $ 1.03 billion, up by 23.7 per cent in quantity and 33.7 per cent in value year – on – year.
