Vietnam’s imports and exports and trade balance in first 4 months of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the data from the General Statistics Office (GSO), Vietnam's import-export turnover in the first 4 months of this year reached 238.88 billion USD.

Of which, merchandise exports in the first 4 months of the year reached 123.64 billion USD, up by 15% over the same period last year.
The country's total import value of goods in the first 4 months of this year reached 115.24 billion USD, up by 15.4% over the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the trade surplus in the first 4 months of the year reached 8.4 billion USD, higher than 7.66 billion USD recorded in the same period last year.
Vietnam's exports of goods in April and the first 4 months of 2024
The data released by the General Statistics Office showed that, the merchandise export turnover in April of 2024 was estimated to reach 30.94 billion USD, down by 8.1% over the previous month and up by 10.6% over the same period last year. In the first 4 months of 2024, merchandise export turnover was estimated to reach 123.64 billion USD, up by 15% over the same period last year.
In the first 4 months of this year, there were 21 items with export turnover of over 1 billion USD, accounting for 86.4% of total export turnover. Of the figure, there were 5 export items with the export turnover of over 5 billion USD, accounting for 57.8%.
Regarding the structure of export goods group, in the first 4 months of 2024, the exports of the group of processed industrial goods was estimated to reach 108.27 billion USD, accounting for 87.5% of the total.
The exports to major markets such as the US, EU, and China all grew by double digits.
The United States was Vietnam's largest export market in the first 4 months of this year with an estimated turnover of 34.1 billion USD, up by 19.1% over the same period of 2023.
The exports to China reached 18 billion USD, up by 14.4%; while the exports to the EU market reached 16.4 billion USD, an increase of 15%; and the exports to the South Korean market reached 8.4 billion USD, up by 10.2% over the same period last year.
Vietnam's trade surplus to some key markets such as the US and EU increased by double digits.
In the agricultural sector, according to estimates by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover in April of 2024 was estimated to reach 520 million USD, an increase of 33.9% over the same period of 2023.
In the first 4 months of this year, Vietnam's total fruit and vegetable exports reached 1.804 billion USD, up by 32.1% over the same period last year.
Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports to major markets in the first 4 months of 2024 all grew positively.
Leading in export value was the Chinese market, with the export turnover of 759.4 million USD, up by 32.4% over the same period in 2023. It was followed by the South Korean market with 74.6 million USD, an increase of 59.3%; the United States with 67.7 million USD, an increase of 33.9%; and Thailand with 47.6 million USD, an increase of 112%.

The data from the General Statistics Office showed that Vietnam's import turnover in April of 2024 was estimated to reach 30.26 billion USD, down by 2% over the previous month and up by 19.9% over the same period last year.
In the first 4 months of 2024, the country’s total import turnover was estimated to reach 115.24 billion USD, up by 15.4% over the same period last year.
In the first 4 months of this year, there were 20 imported items worth over 1 billion USD, accounting for 78.9% of total import turnover, of which, there were 2 imported items worth over 5 billion USD, accounting for 39.4% of the country’s total import turnover.
Regarding the structure of imported goods in the first 4 months of 2024, the import turnover of the group of capital goods was estimated to reach 108.33 billion USD, accounting for 94%. China was Vietnam's largest import market for goods with an estimated turnover of 41.6 billion USD.
Overall, in the first 4 months of 2024, the trade balance of goods was estimated to have a trade surplus of 8.4 billion USD (in the same period last year, the country’s trade surplus was 7.66 billion USD).
