Vietnam’s exports and imports of animal feed and materials in first eight months of 2019

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of animal feed and materials decreased in August and the first eight months of this year, according to the figures of the General Department of Customs.

The country’s imports of animal feed and materials still saw growth in August of this year.

Vietnam’s exports of animal feed and materials in first 8 months of 2019
After growing in July 2019, in August of 2019, the country’s exports of animal feed and raw materials has decreased again by 11.4 per cent.
In the first 8 months of 2019, the country’s exports of this commodity reached 465.72 million USD, down by 3.4 per cent over the same period of 2018.
Southeast Asia was the main export market of this group of Vietnam, accounting for 33.57 per cent of the total proportion, reaching 156.34 million USD, up by 4.27 per cent over the same period last year. In August of 2019 alone, it decreased by 2.87 per cent compared to July of 2019, but up by 1.81 per cent compared to August of 2018 to reach 21.98 million USD.

Leading export markets of animal feed and materials in the first eight months of 2019
Among the markets that imported animal feed and raw materials from Vietnam in the first eight months of this year, China is located not far from Vietnam, convenient for transporting goods so the country’s exports of animal feed and materials to this market has reached 133.52 million USD. However, compared with the same period last year, it dropped by 14.41 per cent. In August of 2019 alone, the exports of animal feed and materials to this market also decreased by 32.9 per cent compared to July of 2019 and by 26.89 per cent compared to August of 2018, equivalent to 16.71 million USD.

The following were Cambodia and Malaysia. The exports to Cambodia increased by 8.22 per cent to 64.76 million USD, particularly in August of 2019, the exports to this market decreased by 5.23 per cent compared to July 2019 to only 8.81 million USD. The exports to Malaysia in 8 months of 2019 reached 49.37 million USD, up by 10.01 per cent over the same period last year, particularly in August of 2019 the figure reached 7.34 million USD, up by 6.73 per cent compared to July of 2019 and increased by 9.8 per cent compared to August of 2018.

In addition, Vietnam also exported to other markets such as India, USA, Japan, etc.
In general, in the first 8 months of 2019, the country’s exports of animal feed and raw materials to most markets declined, the number of these markets accounted for 53.3 per cent, of which the exports to Thailand decreased the most by 27.52 per cent over the same period last year with 15.13 million USD, particularly in August of 2019 the exports to Thailand reached 1.06 million USD, down by 19.62 per cent compared to July of 2019 and down by 63.08 per cênt compared to August of 2018.
In the opposite direction, Japan increased its imports of animal feed and raw materials from Vietnam by 25.91 per cent over the same period last year, though only reached 24.36 million USD, particularly in August of 2019, the turnover reached 2.46 million USD, down by 27.44 per cent compared to July of 2019 and down by 4.56 per cent compared to August of 2018.

Vietnam imported 371 million USD worth of animal feed and materials in August of this year, increased by 15.05 per cent over the previous month and by 26.36 per cent invalue over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In August, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina reached 170 million USD, increased by 11.98 per cent compared with the previous month and increased sharply by 341.53 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina in the first 8 months of this year to over 1 billion USD, accounted for 39.6 per cent of the total market share.

It was followed by the U.S with over 75 million USD in August, up by 101.56 per cent month – on – month and by 5.55 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from the U.S in the first 8 months of this year to over 437 million USD, down by 0.72 per cent year – on – year.
Meanwhile, the imports animal feed and materials from China reached over 14 million USD in August, down by 7.07 per cent month – on – month and by 40.53 per cent year – on – year. The total imports of animal feed and materials from China in the first 8 months of this year reached over 126 million USD, decreased by 19.92 per cent year – on – year.

In the first 8 months of this year, Vietnam spent over 2.5 billion USD on importing animal feed and materials, up by 3.21 per cent over the same period last year.
In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Canada reached 35.8 million USD, increased sharply by 167.3 per cent; from Australia 19.3 million USD, up by 87.6 per cent; from Argentina – over 1 billion USD, up by 38.56 per cent; and from Germany – over 7.3 million USD, up by 15.15 per cent year – on – year.
Vietnam also imported wheat, corn, soybean; oil and grease as materials for producing animal feed and materials in the first 8 months of this year.
Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at 196,000 tons worth of 49million USD in August and over 1.6 million tons worth of over 441 million USD in the first 8 months of this year, decreased by 56.29 per cent in quantity and by 49.38 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.
The leading wheat import markets in the first 8 months of this year were Australia with the market share of 42 per cent; Canada – 20 per cent; Russia – 12 per cent; the U.S – 5 per cent; and Brazil – 5 per cent.

In the first 8 months of this year, the imports of wheat from Russia decreased by 89.96 per cent in quantity and by 88.55 per cent in value year – on - year, while the imports from the U.S decreased by 36.31 per cent in quantity and 35.35 per cent in value; and from Australia – down by 22.53 per cent in quantity and 16.79 per cent in value. Meanwhile, the imports from Canada increased by 22.75 per cent in quantity and 24.72 per cent in value compared with the same period last year. However, the imports from Brazil increased sharply by 10.98 per cent in quantity and 41.36 per cent in value over the same period last year.
Soybean: Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 107,000 tons worth of over 43 million USD in August and over 1.1 million tons worth of 446 million USD in the first 8 months of this year, decreased by 1.04 per cent in volume and 10.45 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.

Corn: The imports of corn reached over 1.1 million tons worth of 221 million USD in August and over 6.4 million tons worth of over 1.3 billion USD in the first 8 months of this year, increased by 6.7 per cent in quantity and by 7.21 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.
Argentina and Brazil were the leading corn import markets of Vietnam in the first 8 months of this year with 63 per cent and 34 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
