Ba Ria-Vung Tau: Over 360 antiques donated to museum
Monday, August 6,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Collector Nguyen Ngoc An has donated 367 antiques from different periods in history to Ba Ria - Vung Tau province’s museum.
The donation was handed over in a ceremony held by the southern province’s Department of Culture and Sports on August 3.
The collection includes ancient tools, items and jewelries like stone-age axes and arrows, bowls, vases, plates, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. Many of them came from Sa Huynh, Dong Son and Oc Eo cultures dating back from 500 – 700 BC. Others were created during the Ly, Tran, Le, Mac and Nguyen dynasties from the 10th to early 20th century. Some were from China’s Han, Ming and Qing dynasties.
An, from Phan Thiet city in the south central province of Binh Thuan, said he collects antiques because of his passion for exploring the diversity and richness in cultural life and customs of the ancient Vietnamese.
He wished that his donation would support the museum’s history research and bring an expanded collection of items on display for the public, he added.
The collector has so far made 18 donations with a total of over 5,500 ancient objects to cities and provinces nationwide.
Tran Van Triem, director of the province’s museum, highly spoke of An’s donation, saying the museum will select donated items for exhibition as soon as possible.
