Believed-to-be prehistoric items unearthed in Binh Phuoc

 Thursday, June 8,2017

AsemconnectVietnam -  Three stone hoe-shaped objects believed to date back about 3,000 years ago have been found in Nghia Trung commune of Bu Dang district, the southern province of Binh Phuoc. They were discovered by a resident in hamlet 8 of Nghia Trung commune in late April.

Phan Huu Hien, Deputy Director of the Binh Phuoc Museum, said the museum compared the items with stone tools unearthed in other archeological sites kept at the museum, indicating they are hoes from the New Stone Age.

Sharing this view, Assoc. Prof. and Dr. Bui Chi Hoang, from the Southern Institute of Social Sciences, said the objects are prehistoric stone hoes. There are no signs showing that they were used, meaning they could have been worship objects.

Similar items had been found in the Central Highlands provinces of Dak Lak and Dak Nong, but this was the first time such objects were discovered in Binh Phuoc, he added.

The three antiquities are being kept at the Binh Phuoc Museum for further studying.
