Can Tho announced as host of Vietnam-Japan trade exchange
Tuesday, August 6,2019AsemconnectVietnam - The fifth version of the Vietnam-Japan culture and trade exchange is set to be held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho in November.
The announcement was made during a press briefing organised by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Can Tho municipal People’s Committee in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, in Japan on August 5.
Upon addressing the event, VCCI Vice President Nguyen Phuong Lam, deputy director of VCCI’s branch in Can Tho City, said the Vietnam-Japan culture and trade exchange had been held in the city for the past four years and has served to deepen partnerships between the two countries' businesses.
As of late June, Vietnam - Japan import and export turnover hit US$18.5 billion, including US$9.7 billion from exports. Japan had 219 new projects in Vietnam, bringing the total number of FDI projects to 4,190, ranking second in terms of the number of projects and total registered capital. Notably, Japan has run 10 new projects in the Mekong River Delta alone, lifting the total number of its FDI projects in the region to 178.
This year's exchange is expected to welcome approximately 300 Japanese businesses to Can Tho City, Lam said.
To meet the extra travel demands of businesses, the Can Tho municipal People’s Committee, VCCI’s branch in Can Tho City, and Japan’s Brainwork's Asia Group will put on additional direct flights from Japan's Tokyo and Osaka to Can Tho city.
During the fifth Vietnam-Japan culture and trade exchange, the culture and products of both nations will be showcased, alongside workshops connecting businesses and calling for investment co-operation across a range of fields.
At the press conference, representatives from media agencies, VCCI, Can Tho City, and Japanese enterprises also discussed ways to further enhance their coordination in economic, cultural and social affairs.
