ASEAN economic community can help lower cost of living in Philippines

 Sunday, October 15,2017

AsemconnectVietnam - The country has reap many benefits, including lower taxes of goods, under the envisioned Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economic community, according to Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco.

“A fully-implemented ASEAN Economic Community could mean lower taxes and tariffs for imported goods and this, in turn, could lead to lower cost of living and a greater purchasing power for us,” he said during the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian (ASEAN).
Tiangco also noted that through ASEAN, it would be easier for Navoteños to export products, as well as a visit or apply for jobs in the association’s member countries.
“In preparation for such occurrence, we should strive to develop and improve our native products and seek continuous self-advancement so we could compete globally,” he added.
Navotas was one of the 76 local government units that participated in the simultaneous ASEAN Landmark Lighting last Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The city government held a short program in the midst of a festive crowd comprised of local government employees, senior citizens, students and city officials.
The program included a dance presentation from Navotas National High School, who championed at the 2017 Pangisdaan Streetdancing Competition, and song numbers from the Daanghari Drum and Bugle Corps.
“We are truly fortunate to be part of this momentous event. It is a privilege to join in the landmark lighting and celebrate with the whole ASEAN community. Events like this only come once in a lifetime so we took the opportunity to share it with all Navoteños,” Tiangco said.
