Senior leaders host Hungarian PM

AsemconnectVietnam - Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang and National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on September 25 hosted separate receptions for the visiting Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, in Hanoi.

During the reception for Prime Minister Viktor, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said Vietnam values a traditional friendship with Hungary and the country’s role and status in Europe. 
He appreciated the European country’s active support and practical cooperation with Vietnam over recent years, especially in training personnel and helping the Vietnamese community in Hungary.

The Party leader welcomed the outcome of the talks between the two PMs and agreements reached during the visit, and voiced his support for the ties between the two governments and the ruling parties and accelerating cooperation in fields of strengths and demand.

PM Viktor Orban stated that Hungary treasures the traditional relations with Vietnam and sees the country as an important partner with the longest term potential in Southeast Asia.

He praised the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two ruling parties and expressed his hope for furthering the ties with the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and consolidating the bilateral relations in the time to come.

He said Hungary is determined to augment practical cooperation with Vietnam, especially in personnel training, water resources management, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture and the establishment of the Hungary Culture Centre in Vietnam, with a view to reinforcing the friendship between the two peoples.
The guest praised a recent MoU on cooperation between the ruling Parties of both countries. 
Meeting with visiting Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, President Quang hailed Hungary for considering Vietnam as a priority partner in its development cooperation policy. 
Hungry is Vietnam’s largest official development assistance (ODA) supplier in East-Central Europe, with preferential loans totaling 535 million EUR (roughly US$636 million). Of the number, 440 million EUR is within a framework agreement on credit cooperation signed by the two countries in January 2017, he said. 

With a series of cooperation agreements signed following the talks between PM Viktor Orban and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Hungarian leader’s visit is expected to add fresh impetus to the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries, especially in trade and investment, making the link on par with the fruitful political ties, President Quang said. 

He also suggested both sides intensifying the exchange of all-level delegations as well as collaboration between ministries, agencies, localities and businesses in order to actualize the above-mentioned agreements. 

The Vietnamese State leader also applauded the two countries’ close coordination at international forums, particularly within the framework of the UN, the Asia-Europe Meeting and the Mekong-Danube cooperation mechanism. 

He thanked the Hungarian side for supporting Vietnam’s candidacy for a seat in the UN Economic and Social Council during 2016-2018 as well as its commitments to backing Vietnam’s bid to run for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.

Quang also asked Hungary promote the comprehensive relations between Vietnam and the EU, including the early official signing and ratification of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement. 

President Quang also thanked Hungary for offering favourable conditions for more than 4,000 Vietnamese in the country and called on the Hungarian side to continue their support for them.

For his part, PM Viktor Orban said his country has also granted 200 scholarships to Vietnamese students each year and there are about 3,000 Vietnamese graduating from Hungarian universities, whiling calling for President Quang’s support for the establishment of the Hungary Culture Centre in Hanoi. 
He stressed that Hungary welcomes Vietnamese businesses to invest in the country and stands ready to bridge Vietnam with other countries in East-Central Europe, adding that Hungary will be the first EU nation to adopt the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.
 
Talking to the Hungarian guest, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan,  praised Hungary’s support for the building of an oncology hospital in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho. 
The top Vietnamese legislator said Vietnam always places great importance on developing ties with traditional friends in the Central and Eastern Europe, with Hungary being a priority.
She stated that Vietnam is revamping its legal framework and will regularly supervise the implementation of signed deals between the two Governments, thus contributing to further bolstering bilateral ties.
NA Chairwoman Ngan also used the occasion to thank the Hungarian Government for providing preferential loans for Vietnam to build the Can Tho Oncology Hospital, meeting demands of about 20 million people in the Mekong Delta region and improving high quality human resources for the country’s health sector. 

The Hungarian PM declared that Hungary will help Vietnam build the Can Tho Oncology Hospital with the best quality, adding that Hungary has also decided to double the number of scholarships for Vietnamese students

He spoke highly of the Vietnamese community in Hungary, who always respect the law of the host country. With about 3,000 Vietnamese people who used to live and study in Hungary, Vietnam is considered one of the important partners of the European country in the region.

PM Viktor Orban said many Hungarian businesses are keen on seeking investment opportunities in Vietnam and Hungary hopes for closer ties with Vietnam in fields of Vietnam’s demand, including water supply, wastewater treatment and agriculture.
