 14th NA Chairwoman gives oath speech

14th National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on July 22 in Ha Noi took the oath of office, vowing to completely faithful to the country, people and the Constitution. She also pledged to successfully accomplish the mission assigned by the Party, State, and people.

Taking the heavy responsibility for fellow-citizens and voters, as the head of the National Assembly, the highest organ of state power, NA Chairwoman Ngan promised to work with the NA Standing Committee and NA deputies to uphold the 70-year glorious tradition of the NA; effectively conduct constitutional and legislative functions; make important decisions on national important issues; and perform the highest supervisory function of the State in accordance with the Constitution and laws.  

14th NA passes key positions for legislative body

The 14th National Assembly (NA) passed the new NA Standing Committee, which have 18 members, comprising the NA Chair, four Vice Chairs and 13 members.

The Vice Chairs are Phung Quoc Hien, Uong Chu Luu, Tong Thi Phong, and General Do Ba Ty, who were all Vice Chairmen of the 13th NA.

Lao PM, Vice President welcome DPM Minh

Lao PM Thongloun Sisoulith and Vice President Phankham Viphavan on July 22 received Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on the occasion of his visit to Laos to attend the 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM-49) and related meetings.

At these meetings, Deputy PM Minh announced that the Vietnamese ministries, agencies and localities are actively implementing agreements reached by the two nations’ high-ranking leaders.

They urged the two sides to deploy measures to effectively realize agreements gained during senior leaders’ visits and the outcomes of the 38th meeting of the Viet Nam –Laos Inter-governmental Committee for Bilateral Cooperation.

Vietnamese, Slovakian PMs seek measures for bilateral ties

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Slovakian counterpart Robert Fico compared notes on specific measures to step up cooperation between the two countries during their talks in Ha Noi on July 18.

The two leaders said bilateral economic and trade ties have developed steadily over the recent past, with an average annual two-way trade of about US$ 300 million. Slovakia is running five projects in Viet Nam while the Southeast Asian country has only one project in Slovakia.

PM approves high-ranking personnel of HCM City

The PM approved the election of Chairman and Vice Chairmen of Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee in the 2016-2021 term.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Deputy Secretary of the city’s Party Committee in the 2011-2016 period was appointed as Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee in the 2016-2021 phase.

Vice President joins ECOSOC’s meeting on climate change

Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh delivered a speech at the opening session of a high-level segment on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and coping with climate change of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York on July 19.

The Vice President highlighted  efforts made by the Vietnamese Government in assisting the people in addressing consequences caused by drought and sea-water intrusion, expressing her hope that the international community will provide more assistance for Viet Nam, especially financial aid, technology and specific initiatives to cope with the situations.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the Vice President asserted VietNam’s consistent stance of the settlement of relevant disputes by peaceful measures, including diplomatic and legal processes, in line with the UN Charter and international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

DPM asks for support for Vietnamese in Germany

Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on July 23 has asked the Vietnamese diplomatic missions to take measures to protect Vietnamese nationals in Germany following the Munich shooting.

According to the recent information of the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany, no Vietnamese have been reported to be killed or injured during the shooting.

The Vietnamese Embassy is keeping close contact with German competent agencies to update information related to Vietnamese citizens to take prompt protection measures.
