After undergoing 13 days of treatment at the National Hospital of Pediatrics, the three-month old girl’s test results came back negative for COVID-19 for the second time.

Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Hai, Director of the National Hospital of Pediatrics, said that during the treatment period the hospital had been strict in implementing the isolation treatment procedure for the child.

Prof. Dr. Hai added that following 10 days of treatment at the hospital, the baby's health condition had shown gradual signs of improvement, with the mother’s test results also coming back negative for the COVID-19.

Following the discharge, the child will be closely monitored by local doctors who will be receiving ongoing support from the National Hospital of Pediatrics in order to best take care of the child. 

Five days before being admitted to the hospital, the child showed symptoms of a runny nose, coughing, and a mild fever. Despite these initial symptoms she remained well fed and at no point faced difficulties breathing.

The child was later examined and put into quarantine at Quang Ha General Clinic in Binh Xuyen district of Vinh Phuc province. The Vinh Phuc Center for Disease Control successfully collected samples of nose and throat fluids before sending them to the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to undergo testing with the results coming back positive for the COVID-19.

The National Hospital of Pediatrics stated that in order to ensure a better quality of treatment, February 11 saw the baby transferred to the centre of clinical medicine for children's tropical diseases under the National Hospital of Pediatrics.

Once there, she was diagnosed by doctors to be suffering from an upper respiratory tract infection before receiving appropriate treatment therapies.

The child’s health condition began improving exponentially from February 13, with there being no signs of a fever or cough between February 14 and February 17.

The hospital then took a sample from the patient before sending it to the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to undergo a second test on February 14, before being tested for the third time on February 17, with the tests coming back negative for the new strain of the COVID-19.
